Towing questions re regs......

Lo all

Two quick questions please on towing a trailer.

1 speed limit when towing on UK motorway is what?

and 2 penalty for exceeding the limit is what in terms of points?

I could try finding it myself but this is undoubtedly the faster way to find out.

All help appreciated.

That's what I thought. Thanks chaps. So 70 can be done relatively safely depending on car, trailer and road conditions.

you could do 100+ if the car was heavy and powerful enough and the trailer had a low enough centre of gravity

Get ready for some extreme undertaking due to MLMs. Of course you should stick to the limit, but a well matched tow car/trailer combo can go... Ehem... Faster.

Given the lack of cops arround put a broken plate on the trailer and carry on as usual, after all if the rear plate isn't your car or isn't visible then the camera can't get you, oh yeah and I'm not sure a camera can identify the fact you have a trailer behind you anyway.

Not worth the risk. I drive for a living and balance risk v reward. 3 points hell even 6 no biggie and odds of getting caught are very very minimal due to process i follow.

I also know where all the cameras (fixed) are and where they put the mobile ones on the route i plan on using.

I would have thought that driving, especially for a living, would mean trying to get any risk factor as low as possible .........

Depends on the car, I saw an X5M (Yes an actual X5M) towing a caravan, lets just say he was making progress.

And 60mph I believe. So basically the same as if you were driving a truck.

few years ago, friend of mine was delivery a mini digger 1.5t and another lad was taking a 1t dumper to the same job, they were both towin them with commercial discos, anyway someone had rang up and complained as they were both in the outside lane of a dual carriageway doin between 70 and 75 loaded, there boss had told them to be more polite and let people pass in future.
