How long is a piece of string? Too many variables to give you an answer really.

I do hope you mean 1mm of tread until the tyres are at the legal minimum??

I'm about a millimetre above the wear bars. I recon that could be 5,000 miles so I'm tempted to rotate them to the front to kill them off faster so I can get a nice new pair to match the new pair I already have. Don't bother telling me to throw them away because [anorak mode] stopping distances will be increased exponentially with the tyres wearing below 3mm [/anorak mode]

How long is a piece of string. At the very least, we'd need to know /what/ tyres they are, what kind of driving you do and whether you carry loads / rear passengers.

If you know how quickly the first 6mm wore it would make it a lot easier.

P.S I didn't say at any point that I had 1mm remaining- it was a little presumptuous to assume that I am completely ignorant to the rules of the road.

If you assume you started with 8mm & you have 2.6mm remaining, how many miles did it take to use 5.4mm? Divide the mileage by 5.4 & you will have something to give you an idea.
e.g. 30,000/5.4 = 5555.55 recurring, 25,000/5.4 = 5185.18

I appreciate it's a bit unpredictable! These tyres were on the front so were wearing much more than they will now they're on the back. They're Conti SC3.
Driving is mostly short backroad journeys at a 'making progress' pace.

This is a sound approach, although I would suggest with winter fast approaching, if you can afford to replace with new rubber, you'll have a much more stable car if driving through standing water etc.
