Hi all,

I need to buy a car again soon, and at most i will be able to get about 2500 for it, really i just need a car that is comfortable, gets me across town to work, up to the rents and do the shopping.

I have been looking at 02/03 vectra, Bora, and similar and similar cars as i had a vectra in the past and found it comfortable, and covered everything i needed it to looks at getting a puma again, but insurance is a little high so decided against it for the time being.

On my looking at ebay, autotrader i have started to find nice looking mx5's around the '99 age with reasonable mileages and i have wanted one for a long time, the insurance is ok lower than the puma even for a 1.8 as long as it is non-import.

The point is i don't make much, on 6:50p/hr and a mx5 is not really the most useful car, but i'm 24 don't have to worry about rent girlfriend just inherited flat and i live there, don't have any real debts and SWMBO likes the mx5 biggrin

So should i go for the reliable, warm tin top for now, or go for the dream of a sports car? considering its an mx5 in winter on normal tires.
this could be the wrong place to ask this lol, but i don't have any mates that are car nuts or know anything about cars for that matter,

Good time to buy a soft top, prices are low. MX5 is a nice car - worth getting a track day so you can get used to rwd handling, rather than learning on a wet roundabout in rush hour traffic.

Go for a slightly older MK1 MX-5, pop-up headlights are the ultimate automotive cool.

If you must go for a tin top, MG ZS's are very cheap for age, mileage and history. 1.8 engine is good and quick enough, surprising handling too.

yeah, the mk1 is sooo cool and pop up headlights is something i have wanted since i was a little kid, but i cant seem to find many that have lowish miles, and are not very over priced, i like them both i do slight prefer the looks of the mk2 but love the mk1 as well. Yeah its a great time to buy them as well which is something else that is making me want to buy one, i should get a good deal.

I have had a pick up so do have some rwd experience, but that was always a bit twitchy in the wet lol was fun though.

i really do think i will end up with a mx5, the mk1 is a legend but they can look very toy like sometimes, the mk2 looks a bit bigger but i will buy on condition at the end of the day, but the pop up headlight do make me smile biggrin
