Got driven into yesterday. My vehicle parked up, in a bay, engine off, handbrake on, gear selector in Neutral. I'm sitting listening to the radio waiting for a passenger.

Car gives an almighty lurch.

I'm out of the car fairly quickly, but even so passers by are gesticulating at the other driver and shouting you've just driven into that car. One guy says to me, you'd better stop him sharpish as he's about to drive off.

Other driver sees me bearing down on him and thinks better of it, stops and gets out.

At this point, I can see some bits and bobs on the bumper, hopefully they will polish out, but the light is not good enough to say no significant damage. Bloke insists there is nothing wrong. Damage is pointed out to him.

At this point his front seat passenger gets out and starts the mental (yes it was a woman) offensive, aggressive, bad language, simply because of asking for the driver details.

Eventually after polite insistence they provide some details, I took pictures, they cleared off with abuse and profanities directed at me.

Not once did they offer any apology or remorse. Seems they don't like being dealt with firmly.

Sorry, but clearly outwardly reasonable well dressed people resorting to scum behaviour.

Seriously I've noticed a lack of 'manners' across the board in recent years, whether it's acknowledging you've just held the door for someone or admitting any kind of fault.

Report the collision to the Police and have the passenger arrested under Section 5 and Section 6 of the Public Order Act, threatening and abusive language with the intention to intimidate. For the driver to attempt to flee and her reaction I'd say either the car isn't insured or worse as well. CCTV and witnesses will help but the photo's you took at the scene should have it.

You're lucky that you know who did it and potentially have witnesses to support any insurance claim you may have to make.

I've just had to stump up £400 to have damage fixed after someone hit my car in Tesco's carpark. Whoever did it just buggered off and unfortunately the cctv didnt cover that area.

My OH usually says quite loudly "Don't mention it, Oh you didn't" It normally gets a smile from the well mannered people who have witnessed it.

Some of us have never been at fault ! wink

If someone is polite and sorry I'd T cut it out myself.

Following their attitude I'd be going to a main dealer.

Someone hit a mate's MX5 recently the quote was £850 for a new bumper as he was reasonable we're getting a used one painted instead costing him only £200.

In these situations you just have to smile and accept the imperfections of others.

Or grab the nearest blunt object and start swinging.

I think some people are just wired wrong, my wife works with kids and some just seem to be difficult, no reason, good home and intelligent, I think sometimes the old "You cant argue with a sick mind, so dont try" sums it up nicely, dealing with cretins makes it all the more pleasurable when you meet someone who is decent and pleasant, think most people are but there are some complete confused animals out there.

I see people, these days, are not even slightly bothered about confrontation whether they're right or wrong.
As suggested report them to the police but having said that they won't care and we'll be wasting tax payers money for no reason.
I'm definately not in the right to say or behave this way but getting towards 40 my tolerance towards these sorts of people are getting very very low!

You're confusing nature over nurture there.

This time she got gobby, next time it could escilate. She could gob off at the wrong person and end up in hospital, prison or a morgue.

I had to literally jump out of the way of a guy wheelspinning his 106 off his driveway in reverse without looking. Then he called me a prick. Luckily I'm moving after christmas.

The thing is by denying everything they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. They could have driven off and had no consequences to deal with. The only option is to severely punish them in the hope of correcting them and discouraging others.

Also for every redgriff500/redgriff500's mate who will try to source the cheapest repair for someone who is reasonable (nice one btw thumbup), no doubt they'll be at least 10 others who will attempt to screw said reasonable person by going for the most expensive repair and claim for whiplash, distress, time off work etc. frown

Isn't denial of being in the wrong part of human nature?

Coming up to a roundabout in the wet on a 50 mph dual carriage way a pedestrian decided he would try his luck and run across the road. I performed an emergency stop and the guy behind went into the back of my car. I got out all hyped up to see a young man looking upset and apologising. On reviewing damage there was a small dent in the bumper of my 4x4 but his car looked a whole lot worse. Front bumper/ bonnet lid and lights all damaged. He offered his details but as he was apologetic, accepted it was his fault and would probably get hammered by his insurance I just shook his hand wished him well and we parted ways. If he had been obnoxious it would have been very different. It will probably cost me £100 to sort out my car but tbh I can afford that and it will be costing him a lot more as well as affecting his insurance premiums in the future.
Pays to be nice!

But unless she's of sound mind no amount of advice given, especially by a person in uniform, will ever change these people. It will be seen as a bking and 'phew got away with it this time'.
I've seen people that as kids kicked out at anyone in authority and are still doing it now at almost 40.
