I don't understand what's so funny. All of the epic majesty of a real AM and for the piffling sum of £6300.

What's not to like?

Because for that money you could have a clean Capri and not a fake Aston!

wink

I'm not even sure who's being sarcastic and who isn't anymore...

To clear things up, IMO it's bloody dreadful and should be bought and burnt as quickly as possible by anyone who has affection for either Capri's or Astons

It certainly is different though biggrin

Waste of what might have been a decent Capri, and an embarrasment to anyone who likes Astons...

I dont mind replicas that actually look like the car they are supposed to be (Hawk AC Ace, or a decent cobra rep, or a proteus Jaguar) but no-one is convinced by this, or an mr2 'ferrari' etc

I feel awkward about these kind cars, its cringeworthy.

Each to their own, and this isnt a personal attack on the owners of such things, but i just don't get it myself!

That really is bad! It looks like a drop top version of one of those disability cars you used to see in the 80s.

I was expecting a Tickford replica, which would have been turd emulation to start with but this is just so much more substantial biggrin

I can hear their neighbours sniggering from here. Each to their own but i could never ever drive about in that, waste of a Capri.

That's pretty laughable.

Still, at least it doesn't look like a Capri anymore. /silverlining

That's not actually that bad. But for £630, not £6300.
3 litre V6, convertible - some positives there, but it really needs some proper wheels to fill the arches.
And the hood mechanism looks like it's come off a Silver Cross pram.
I've seen worse though - the MR2erarris can be hurl

Assuming this isn't a recent conversion put together from a bodykit that'd been knocking around for years, you have to consider the period when this car was built. At the time an old Capri was seen as a fairly worthless shed and not worth preserving, whilst Astons were affordable to only the very select few.

That the finished product only bears passing resemblance to an Aston wasn't such an issue. Most people would never have seen the real thing in the flesh, there was no internet with which to become familiar with the marque, and so the average man in the street may have once seen a picture in a magazine somewhere but that's about it.

Then look at the quality of second hand cars available to most in the late 80s. Most really were very challenged when it came to styling, performance and comfort and so such a conversion wouldn't have been nearly such a contrast as it would now.

There's a reason why such bodykit conversions have fallen by the wayside since then, but at the time they served a niche very much peculiar to that period in automotive history.

It's all too easy to knock such a car when seen from today's perspective, but imho what it goes to show most is just how spoiled we are now when it comes to car ownership. That you can pick up a second hand high performance luxury barge for a couple of weeks wages, or 17 year olds can get finance on a brand new hatchback with performance that would now shame most cars of the 80s.

I though it was going to be a genuine Tickford Capri when I read the title.

As much I respect the quality of your post and it's content I'm afraid that no matter what moment in history it comes from this car is utterly awful, and the asking price of £6300 is ridiculous.

There are still plenty of people nowadays who are willing to spend £1000's in an attempt to make an MR2 look like a Ferrari etc. In almost all cases it is done solely for the reasons of convincing people that you have something that you don't, and should always be looked down upon by genuine PH'ers.

Just my opinion.
