So, my Wifes Citroen C5, 51 plate 2.2 diesel has just begun throwing DPF full codes up, and going into limp mode. After a lot of web trawling, and talking to a couple of Peugeot/Citroen specialist getting rid was the obvious route for me. Removed the filter from the car on Sat, a bit of a pain ... only because of rusty exhaust bolts etc, but no more than 2 hours work with hand tools & sturdy ramps. Removed the inner fillings of the DPF, with a masonry drill and a small hammer. Refitted.

Instant and obvious power gain, guess we could have left it as all warning lights gone, and limp mode vanished, but I had a contact with the correct software for the car, so today plugged in the laptop and disabled all of the DPF functions, the C5 & many Peugeots with the same engine were sold with & without the DPF (they call it a FAP but same thing).

Done about 200 miles DPF free, average fuel gone up from 37 to 43, better power. No smoke, best of all no looming DPF issues ... on Peugeot Citroen this involves renewing Eolys fluid at £35 a litre ! ..... and on the remote chance it ever needs replacing a s/h DPF (they're only £150 new) and switch it all back on.

Unless MOT laws change this is a not likely to happen, and as it is already over 10 years old, and over 200k we are not likely to be running it for ever.

I realise that this was quite easy, but hard to understand why some people are getting away with charging hundred of pounds for this service, good luck to them if people pay it I suppose ... but it really was very easy.

Actually cost was a £3 drill bit and a decent bottle of Bordeaux in exchange for the laptop expertise.

The Peuegot 307 (released in 2001) which is a PSA group car like the C5 was the first car to have DPFs fitted to it's entire diesel range.

So you you use a giant eraser to "delete" the DPF, or maybe it had a backspace/delete key? Or did you simply gut it/remove it? Possibly one of the most ridiculous terms to be used on car forums.

Yeah that, and 'stock' when they really mean 'standard'.

What, "delete"?

As in, the term used by most manufacturers for removing a standard fit item (e.g. model designation badges)?

They are. But it probably won't affect cars before 2008.

Deletion refers to removal of the dpf regeneration sequence from the ECU, and the 607 had a DPF on an X-plate. Duh.
