Hi, I’m a newbie, with dreams of building my own Supercar. I know it’s a tall order, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has the same dream? Perhaps your dream is total fantasy, with rocket boosters and machine guns; maybe you have a more realistic approach. Perhaps you already work for a company making Supercars or just want to talk about what’s right or even wrong with Supercars today. Maybe it really gets on your nerves that some cars are so badly put together, but you still love them. Maybe you’ve got something in your garage that will change the world. Maybe you have skills and could build a Supercar, but no money, or perhaps you have the money but no skills?

Anyway, I’m throwing it out there, how would you build yours? What would you do? Using what parts and materials. I would love to hear from anyone on their thoughts on this subject. Cheers.

Crate engine, spaceframe chassis, GFRP panels. Easiest way to go about it.

Anything from Caterham to Ultima there.

Andygtt on here was building his own supercar; he'd be a good guy to speak to if you are really serious. Would also suggest looking through the Ultima forum here... Good luck!

Modern supercars are overcomplicated. I'd want to be able to service it myself. It needs to be lighter than it peers and engineered for outright pace, not safety and comfort. It's a performance, no-compromise car.
Yes, I should've been born about 40 years earlier than I was...

I like that idea, probably go steel tubular space frame and GRP panels for cost. What crate motor? American LS or perhaps German Audi/BMW V6 V8? I know the chap who owns Ultima, went to an open day a few months back, great chap, good day out.

Oh, and it has to sound right. Normally aspirated and at least eight cylinders please. And throttle bodies.

The Briggs brothers (from Cheshire) did it with the BAC Mono.........

Both with engineering backgrounds/connections, and a deep desire to build something niche, unique and with their own stamp on it.

Everyone has their own 'everest' so to speak, desire, commitment and passion (in my view) are the key ingredients to achieving ones dreams..........

Wow, you hit the nail on the head, easy to service. That’s exactly what I want to do. Why design a Supercar with turbos that you can’t get to when the bearings fail? Why put the fuel pump and alarm siren right next to the rear wheels, so they’ll get pebble dashed and need replacing every year! I could go on!

I know quite a few supercars, but I haven't heard of them. I don’t suppose you have a link to a website or anything?

I also agree with your sentiment, but I also feel help is required, trying to doing something like this on your own, can be quite draining.

Yes, that's a good idea. Crate motor, or possible donor car and refurb/tune?

Found him, but because I'm a newbie, I can't e-mail yet. Also his website/pictures don't seem to be working. frown

May I suggest a job in Norfolk? That seems to be the natural home of "dreams of building a supercar". Regrettably it's rather trickier than a lot of people think.

PS Why not start with something a bit more straightforward? For instance, dreams of building your own tumble dryer, and see how it goes.

Sounds great! I like the rough look of a Gumpert Apollo, and the history behind Noble! Oh yeah, the Lamborghini Countach is my all time Favourite Supercar!

Yes, I agree, building your own Supercar is far more difficult than people think. Hmmm start with a tumble dryer…. Not quite as exciting! LOL!
