Video: How not to drive a Corvette

Autocross competitor learns about opposite lock the hard way

As a form of motorsport, you'd have to say that Autocross (a kind of a cross between autotesting and sprinting) is a pretty safe one.

The sort of competition, in short, for a chap who doesn't want to risk damage to his P 'n' J... After all, there are no other folks to overtake, no trees to hit and no track day numpties to avoid.

Should be all good, right? Er no. Not if there's more power than grip plus more ambition than (apparent) experience and a nice solid kerb to thwack into as in this video, poor chap...

At the risk of a whoosh parrot, I think it'll take a little more than a wheel refurb. I saw the result of an Impreza doing similar and the damage to the suspension was pretty extensive.

Oh dear he was unlucky, looked pretty tame and undercontrol then he seemed to just keep his foot in until he hit the kerb, either that or that's one slippy car park.

Ouch!

Better outcome than the video that was doing the rounds a few years ago where someone else on an autocross course managed to end up driving into a lake

I'm not even sure how that happened. Looked as though he was only taking it easy up to that point! (I don't have any sound on in work mind)

How unlucky can you get - first you manage to crash your car whilst driving IN A STRAIGHT LINE and then some mad people arrive - one of whom (in the red hat and blue jacket) appears to be signing for the blind whilst another (in the white jeans and fkwit-directioned cap) appears to be thinking about stealing the car...

and the mirror and probably most of the rest of the car judging by the amount of bits of plastic which go flying...

I have no sound at work either, is it shift-lock given the way the car just swaps ends when barely turning?

Only an american (assuming he is) could hit the only hard thing in a car park while seemingly doing no more than 20mph.
