Rant really
Just bought a car privately no real problems checked tyre depths they are ok.Well didn't look properly but one of the rears in the middle is down to wear bar, doh, well thats down to me,checked front ones at buying time and tread was fine.Washing car a few days later and I see hairline cracks in tread and circumference on side!these were Mich Pilots with a date stamp of 4704(ie 2004my)this is a 2006 car,so I have swiftly changed them. Why do people still save a few pounds on ditch fiders,I can understand cheaper new tyres but second hand on a semi performance coupe

They're not necessarily second hand. The manufacturer could have had them in their stock system for a couple of years before the dealer buys them. He has them in his stocks for another couple of years prior to selling them into the market.

Of course, it's quite likely that they are part worn tyres. If that's the case, what else has the previous owner scrimped on?

True, but the car has done 49,000 miles and the tyres were only half worn...

my guess is its still on orginal tyres. The little crack is just the UV exposure to the rubber making it brittle

I'd take second hand Mich Pilots over new El Cheapos any day of the week!

That won't make any difference given the first scenario I mentioned.

That's quite a sweeping statement though.

looking through the service history it reports front tyres had slightly less tread at 42000 miles the car has now 49000.This was the end of last year so the tyres on the shelf would to had of been 6 years old then.I think he put pat worns on just to sell the car.

Stop complaining !

Part worn tyres are great and if it means some people get to use quality brand tyres rather than el cheapo budget ditch finders it's a good thing.

It was slightly inflammatory purely for the schadenfreude effect.

Still, there's plenty of us who will still think it from time to time.

I put P Zero's on my car recently which were older than the ones I took off! I was pretty surprised, considering I'd had the others on for well over a year.
