New personal record set today. Under 1 min from being stopped on double yellow lines to having an odious creature in front of my car with notepad and camera 
That'll teach me to think I can drop a bike frame into a shop without walking half a mile and paying £2!
Its a shame everything in life isn't so efficient. Nasty traffic warden lady I hope a dog pisses on your leg this afternoon.

True isn't it - councils are normally shockingly inefficient, but woe betide anyone parking for more than 3.6 nanoseconds for something like this. They go on about inefficiency - yet employ armies of these red-hatted fascist b

I know they are there to enforce parking restrictions for a variety of valid reasons - however 90% of the time I see them harassing people who are doing no harm whatsoever - take the OP for instance.

That's fine, your entitled to your opinion but I can only say that I picked a time of day which was quiet and the LBS is not really the busiest street in town. Whilst in the shop I was watching the car the whole time and there was never an instance of traffic being held up...or much traffic at all. RH
The Council have handed over the control of parking nazis to a private firm I have subsequently found out as last year the taxpayer had to dig very deeply to bail them out. Now I know this I wont bother going into town and will take my business to a different place that is twice the distance but has parking. That's a win win for everyone isn't it
Perhaps when there is a ghost town there might be a rethink. It must be an absolute nightmare to run a business down that street.
Keep an eye out as this is probably happening in your locality, private firms are really interested in traffic flow and safety

I've always understood that you can load/unload on yellow lines (if no kerb markings) for a certain length of time. I even checked with a traffic warden and he said, more or less, "So long as you don't take the piss!"

She's doing her job, which is to enforce parking restrictions, which are there to ease traffic flow and avoid congestion. Why does that make her odious? Why do you think the rules don't apply to you? Yes she is, and she probably enjoys it. Before jumping to conclusions re-read the above. 1 min of 'parking' outside a shop not inconveniencing anybody doesn't in my mind seem unreasonable. However as these particular wardens are now privately run they need all the tickets they can get to remain profitable? Sod all to do with traffic flow or congestion especially at 11:30 which was specifically picked because I knew it would be quiet.I'd rather reason with a machine than what I met today

But iwas a still a double yellow .... does robbing a bank without shooting anyone make it any more legal than doing and shooting someone ....I'd rather reason with a machine than what I met today

Yes it was still a double yellow. I dont need to 'man up' I just need to send someone some money, it doesn't really matter and I will have forgotten about it tomorrow. You're just peeved you got caught, man up ...
What is more worrying is somehow you are connecting leaving a car outside a shop for all of 60 seconds to high criminality. You're not a traffic warden are you?

Sympathy, no. Just hoping some might appreciate a warning on how much sharper the talons are on parking attendants these days now they are writing tickets for profit. As for the character of wardens I think its fairly obvious what sort of individual you are likely to find employed in the role. You can commit rape, murder, arson, manslaughter etc and get away with it for a very long time but if you park a car then they're on you straight away! Its amazing how parking a motor vehicle is apparently the biggest crime facing Britain, you'd think so anyway with how much effort councils put in to stop people using their towns.
This happens when private companies take over such responsibilities, they hide behind bins and leap out when they see the mobile ATM approach the side of the road. The same company probably own the car park half a mile away so they send vultures out to force people into them.
Council officers and the PCSO's etc are more regulated or at least have somebody to answer to. The last time i looked they were given a guideline that they have to wait for 5 minutes before issuing a ticket and the PCSO i see occasionally doing the town centre here does exactly that, ive seen him standing staring at a car on double yellows and timing it for 5 minutes before he issues a ticket, this means i can park on double yellows outside the post office (which doesnt cause anybody any trouble what so ever) run in and grab parcels without risk of a ticket.

Funny how some people think that rules should only apply to everybody else though, what makes you so special? I overstayed 10 mins in a council parking space last month and got fined £30 for my troubles, but you don't see me bI'd rather reason with a machine than what I met today

He applied common sense. I'd do the same and I'm sure most of you lot would and probably have done.
He was unlucky to have been caught though, they were probably waiting around the corner! If they didn't have targets to meet they'd be much more reasonable themselves, probably letting you off if they decided that you being parked there hadn't actually caused a problem.
