C2 GT: Any good?
Discussion
Following from an earlier thread about helping to find a car for my girlfriend, a slight change of budget means the Fiat 500 we decided on isn't possible.
With a budget of about £3k-4k, the C2 GT seems a good bet?
It has to be small, with back seats, cheap to insure and run and ideally be fun to drive and quicker than her current car (an old KA).
Obviously they're getting on a bit, and there's a high probability they've been ragged about, but there's some decent ones in budget with full service history so that's something.
So, any thoughts on them?

Hmm.. Will definitely stay away from the VTR, the gearbox looks awful to be fair. The VTS seems much better, but the GT is about the maximum she's willing to pay on insurance.
The Panda isn't a bad option, but more expensive and she's not fussed on the looks.
The GT is obviously a prime target for boy racers, but there are low(ish) mileage cars with full service history, which makes me feel a bit better. Mainly looking for if they're likely to fall apart, common faults, major issues, etc?

GT is the 1.6 8valve and not that well bolted together, they are also likely to have been thrashed. A vts or Code would be a better bet if you wanted a C2, a Panda 100hp would be my choice of car at that size/price point.
GT is a 110bhp 16v, same engine as the VTR but without the crap gearbox. VTS (and the ltd ed. Code) use a 125bhp version of the same engine. All variants of the engine are descendants from the Saxo VTS engine.GT is limited to 2250 units and is a bit lighter than the others.
Panda 100HP would be my bet too, but you don't need to spend £3-4k to land a GT, so I would spend less and get the GT.

As Kitchski has pointed out, the GT is limited so finding a good example is rare as i suspect a lot will have been thrashed and they came with white wheels as standard which are not my cup of tea.GT is limited to 2250 units and is a bit lighter than the others.

Since 300bhp/ton is not here yet, I will post on his behalf:
Could you manage to add another £800 to your budget? I have sourced a suitable car for your OH, see advert below.

Now I know that a 5.7L Yank import is a probably not going to be cheap to run at 20mpg, and the insurance may or may not be an issue, but just look at how much you get there!
