Afternoon all,

I'm looking at replacing all 4 tyres on my mx5, tyre size 205/45/16.

So i'm after any opinions or alternatives on/to the following.

The best options so far (supplied and fitted):

Marangoni Zeta Lineas: £83 from Kwick fit. Including there guarantee which looks quite good.
Toyo Proxes: £85 from a local tyre place who i've used before and are genereally pretty good.
Uniroyal Rain Sport 2's: £83.26 at the local F1 Auto centre.

Looking through the various mazda forums these three seem to be the prefered choices. I've tried all the usual online suspects camskill, black circles etc etc but can't find better than the above once fitted. However with the christmas and the ski season coming up any money saved can be readily utilised elsewhere so feel to make suggestions.

Thanks

I used a local independent tyre place a couple of months back, they were cheaper than all of the online sellers by quite a bit (Michelin PS3's). Are you anywhere near Biggleswade, Beds?

I've heard good things about the proxies and rainsports, you shouldn't go far wrong there if the price is good.

Sorry i suppose it would have helped to say i'm in Brentwood, Essex. I'm not finding they are cheaper than the delivered price, but cheaper once fitting is factored in.

Thanks - i hoping to find the same. However also heard good things about the Marangoni's and the guarantee's Kwick fit offer are attractive. Honestly torn between the three smile

Rainsports not rain experts are the ones you need. Rain expert is econo, passenger car tyre, Rainsport is better suited to the MX5.

Check Camskill for prices too.

Who?

I'd go for the Rainsports.

Have a look here.

Marangoni Zetas are the softest list 1A tyres, used by a lot of speed eventers. Very sticky, dont last that long IIRC.

Another one for Rainsports here
Brilliant tyre
Sticky in wet and dry and outlast Proxes and even the harder Yokos (by 2k in my case)
Just switched on to winters (Avons) but come spring i'll be looking to replace my RSs with... yup, more RSs
They cost more than Proxes and if you choose the cheaper tyre you still won't go far wrong. They're also excellent in wet and dry

Ah good spot, updated the description accordingly.

Camskill have them for £65 but no stock. By the time delivery and fitting are accounted for i think they would be pretty much £80 a corner as well.

Rainsports seem to be head of the pack so far in the pistonpoll.

Im not sure if they'll be any good for mx5s, maybe an owner can shed some light, buy I've found handcooks to be quite good for lighter cars. Probably better grip than the yokos I had before them, and sure as hell lasts longer.

I bought some Falken 912's in that size for my lasses 206.

£52 a corner from Camskill. Have been impressed by them so far.
