Hey guys, i love the way diesels drive compared to petrol.

I currently have a leon FR TSI 07 PLATE 40,000 miles and hoping to get 7000 from the garage as a trade in, im selling it because im getting a house and this car is expensive on insurance, tax and with the dpf constantly regenerating i never see more than 37mpg on a regular basis.

Now what car can i get that doesent go wrong often and is a bit cheaper to insure/tax and replace tyres/fix it but still has a bit of punch

My budget really is 3000 maximum, for this i can seem to get ford focuses? ford mondeos? volkswagen golf seem to be very good but id have to get sort of a 02 reg?

Thanks in advance

Buy a Mk1 Leon 1.9 TDi PD 130bhp? - i don't think the Cupra/FR TDi 150s are £3k yet

Better steer than the Mk4 Golf. Can't really comment on the Fords TBH.

3k's gonna get you a high mileage diesel, and i know its a massive stereotype but they do take a lot more looking after than you might expect.

Depends how you define "pokey" as well, my Mondeo's pretty quick off the mark like most other modern-ish diesels really (It will, of course, get eaten alive by a proper performance car), its comfy, cheap to tax, and can be had for absolutely fk all, they handle really well and theres an abundance of parts (No shortage of mondeos!).

I wouldn't call it a performance car by any stretch of the imagination, but its quick enough for overtaking and sitting in traffic...

I don't know if it will fall into your definition of reliable but an Alfa 156 2.4 JTDm 20v would be good. Saloon or SW.

Fair bit of poke, low miles so should have plenty of life left.

Alfas can be as reliable and as unreliable as any other marque - your choice!

Christ they're cheap!

Makes sense to get those over a Focus IMO. they're just the same underneath anyway.

you have a petrol car with a dpf? You won't get 7k for it.

I've got a 55 bora highline 130, you might get a leggy one for 3k private sale, good car, not very exciting though.

Hold on. You're trading in the Leon for a cheaper car so you're hoping that the trader gives you £7k minus the cost of the new car?

They'll turn you around bend you over and apply the lube before you can say ...............

Glass's guide says £6400 trade in and thats a 2.0.
