I'm in a rally mood. But which effing car?
Discussion
I'm after a new addition. My favourites so far are an Impreza STI V5-6 (or RB5, TypeRA etc.), or an Audi S2, avant or coupe. Budget of around 4.5k as the wife isn't best pleased. My problem is I can't choose between the two. Both have a good sound track, and both are potential rockets....
....Or have I missed anything else?
(No Evos, I've had two).
Anyway, help me make my mind up please, as I'm getting on my own t1ts.

I think I only want the S2 for the 5 pot. The RA is winning at the moment. But alas, I'm being a right woman and keep changing my mind.
The GtiR is a good shout. I had one years ago, it was a fantastic car which I thought looked pretty good actually
. Mine was around 310 bhp and very quick with that.
Pros and cons of each may help....Any thoughts or experiences on all cars mentioned?

Why an RB5? I've never understood that really, all it is, is an expensive Turbo 2000 with a couple of minor styling enhancements and a badge. For less money you can buy a superior in every way JDM WRX STI.
They just seem to be more suited to the UK roads and with the PPP they are pretty quick too. Plus it has those two magic letters on it which goes a long way in my book

isn't there more to the RB5 than that though, I keep reading where it was supposedly the best of the impreza's for these Islands, was lucky enough to drive one in 2000 aswell :-)
Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought it was more marketing than anything else.So had some unique styling changes inside and out, although nothing major. Big wing, front splitter and maybe some stitching on the seats type of thing.
I think it had different rims and maybe a couple of suspension tweaks, but nothing extreme. If you paid more you could have a bit more power too as a Pro Drive option.
That said I'm fairly sure both the power and handling upgrades where standard Pro Drive bits, so you could have had them on any T2000.
Not saying the RB5 is a bad car and residual wise they seem to do well. But I can't really see the logic behind why.
EDIT:
From Wiki:
To celebrate the return of British driver Richard Burns to the rally team in car number 5, a limited edition of 444 cars in "Steel Blue" (aka Cool Grey) was created. The basic £24,995 model had little more than cosmetic differences, but most had the WR Sport Performance Pack, an option consisting of a new ECU and exhaust for 240 PS (177 kW; 237 hp) and 350 N·m (258 lb·ft) torque. The price for the higher spec car was £27,495. [2]. There was also an optional Prodrive suspension pack that cost extra again. Standard Impreza Turbos could be fitted with the suspension pack and cosmetics to create a 'Prodrive WR Sport'.
So yes, a base RB5 was styling only, with optional power upgrade and optional handling upgrade. Both upgrades where also options offered on the T2000 though.
The STi-RA is seriously as sharp as a recently sharpened sharp thing - with the lighter weight (~1200kg), DCCD and quickrack etc they really are quite a different animal to a regular Impreza and much more involving.
A few people do get bitten by them when they drive like a numpty expecting idiot-proof understeer though!
