One of the Land Rovers at work had a bit of a prang, so it was taken to the garage our lease firm recommended. The quote... well, put it this way, there's not much change left from £1800.

The damage...

Does anyone else think that they may have gone a bit mad with that quote?

Hmmm, I suppose to put back to "as new" condition would require a couple of panels, riveting etc... But it's a landy so should be regarded as "patina" hehe

I do have a copy of the quote, parts list includes:

3 new panels and a finishing strip,
new ladder,
new brake light,
new reversing light,
new indicator,
new number plate light,
22 hours of labour

Sensible side of me thinks, as it's a leased vehicle, it needs to be done properly (think it could be pulled out and panel beaten for far less than £1800)

PH side of me thinks, remove light, put steel plate behind light aperture and just pull it out and then plonk a new light on

WTF! From the picture I can't see any damage to the reversing light and the number plate light is above the plate isn't it? The ladder can't have anything worse than a slight bend as well shirley?

Knock it out, put a new indicator lens on and call it character biggrin

Maybe they don't think they are capable of removing intact lights and number plate without damage, not very reassuring.

I have fixed a very similarly damaged vehicle, it was even the same colour.

The rear quarter will need the rivets drilled out and unbolted from the side panel, which takes plenty of time. Replacement quarter will need plenty of time into it for sanding, spraying, sanding, spraying...

Then all riveted and bolted back together.

If I where you I would have them push it out straight as they can and just replace the indicator.

So,
Garage quote £1800 to replace any damaged parts and return the car to pre accident condition.
Most posters think this is way OTT.

Garage do second quote,
Repair all panels, bend ladder back to almost straight,Cracked or scratched parts refitted (it's patina sir). Quote £500.
And most people will complain that it's full of filler and still has damaged parts.

Rubbish, since £500 would be a very expensive repair to those standards. That could be knocked out and a new indicator fitted and a some paint brushed on (if required) for a small fraction of £500.

Did you say it was a lease car or was it just sent to the garage the lease car recommended?

A new indicator lens is £1 or a whole light assemble about £5.

Might be worth leaving it until it's due to go off lease (if it's a lease car) in case anything else needs doing - as someone at the company may buy it before it goes back anyway smile

When my Defender was damaged from the back (not a crash)the bill was £12k

Don't forget these Defenders are a lot of money, I have spent well over £40k on mine and nx year another £4k plus will be spent on it.
