Can the Pistonheads collective answer this (You'd think) simple question that myself and my misinformed friend are "discussing" at the moment.

Simple yes or no would be cool. Explanation either way cool also.

Have a neighbour with an RS5. That's a Q-car. S4 and S6 not so. RS4 and RS6 ? Definitely.

The S cars don't have the go faster bling of the RS cars so IMO that makes them more of a Q car than the RS's.

I like sleeper rather than Q.

To me Q cars should be special in some way not just fast.

Agree

S4 = Q car/sleeper

RS4 = much more in-yer-face

No modern Audi is a 'Q' car or a sleeper. They are far too obvious and the general public expect all of them to be quick.

The last S4 i drove was the V8.

Maybe it was just me, but it wasn't that fast? Not exactly in the same league as a V8 RWD Focus, or a Cosworth YB'd Escort van in terms of "Sleeper-ness"

Fecking heavy big thing.
Aren't they about 5.4 secs to 60? No really slow.

I am not sure why some people say a Q car should be special. To understand what Q car means, google Q ship which is where the term comes from. The whole point is that they don't look special, but are more capable than you would espect.

That is why and RS with extra flared arches, agressive spoilers etc is NOT a Q car.

Agreed, blinged up RS Audis aren't Q cars.

This certainly seems to look and walk like a duck.

I'd always assumed it was derived from the extra features Q fitted to any normal looking Bond car!

5.6 yeah. Although, they get off the line rather quickly with 4WD, which makes the time looks pretty impressive. Still not that quick for something with that much power. Random example, but my mates bog standard looking Corsa would do 60 in under 5 seconds with a lot less power than that. It was a sleeper!

I never said they should look special, quite the opposite, the S4 looks like a quick car imo, big wheels, big brakes, the badges, all a bit of a giveaway imo.
I know you didnt say they should look special, I tried to make that clear in my post, sorry if i didn't.

S4 is more Q than and RS, but yes its not a proper Q car as it has the badges (mind you any S line has very similar badges)

I would hope the Corsa has big brakes smile

Internet says -

Q-ships, also known as Q-boats, Decoy Vessels, Special Service Ships, or Mystery Ships, were heavily armed merchant ships with concealed weaponry, designed to lure submarines into making surface attacks. This gave Q-ships the chance to open fire and sink them. The basic ethos of every Q-ship was to be a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Upon signing up to Pistonheads for membership there should be a question asking for an example of a Q car, a way of verifying if you are a P'Her if you like. Wrong answer and you get denied. This comes up so often and people get it so so wrong.

Yup, and anyone who mentions a modern Audi or BMW should be shot in front of their family.
