Hey guys, i have insurance on my car now and need to sell it soon (mot due and i know it needs work done)

i have 3 months left on the insurance, i will be going on my mams car insurance as a second driver for a bit while i find a car i want, is there anyway i can freeze my other insurance for a short period so i dont lose my no claims? im only 3 months away from 4 years frown

No claims lasts for 2 years. You should just be able to sit on it until you get your next car.

to the poster above, what if someone buys the car and gets insured on it? you cant have 2 different policys on the car where it has 2 main drivers

Yes you can. There's no law about having 2 policies, unless you have 2 policies with the intention of committing a claims fraud.

But what it a worry is if the new owner doesn't insure it. Then you'll be the only insurer of the car on the MID. What I would do is when you sell the car, do a substitution on your policy to a much lower rated car that belongs to a close family member. That they also have covered. You might get some extra money back for the last 3 months and you won't have any MID comeback issues.
