I've seen the Golf advertised above and it just seems to be way too cheap. Does it fit the old adage of being too good to be true?

Is that an auction or classified? Private or dealer? The rest I've seen have been about £400 more for 2 years older.

Being sold by Evans Halshaw, so I'd be suprised if there was anything hidden or sinister about it.

Which explains the lowest common denominator pricing, that's their business model. Don't expect to negotiate, don't expect wondrous things in terms of customer experience and you won't go far wrong.

Exactly. Though I bought one from them once and the sales girl was cloud9

Customer bought £9K Merc from them last month....1 month warranty, wasnt serviced, and they charged an admin fee. And the service history hasnt materialised.

Some of their cars are cheap, BUT check and double check everything

If its a Ex-Motab car, then the opposite is true. Full history and 1 owner.

Exactly what I was thinking, what a bizarre thing to suggest!

What's the pros and cons of buying one of these?

Might sound a horribly insensitive question, but what kind of motability person buys a manual? Don't shoot me, I know nothing about it.

That's the one to avoid, isn't it? - the 1.6 engine was dated and underpowered, and only slung into the Mk5 because they couldn't build enough TSIs.

Cars are unbelievably cheap and getting cheaper by the week currently its always the same prices drop through till February then spring is sprung.

I bought a late(Nov)2006 Chevrolet Tacuma 1.6 days ago for £1400.

One owner from new, full Main Dealer service history, 29,000 miles warranted, absolutely immaculate, air con, cd mulichanger top spec absolutely mint. Could not even find a single mark anywhere on the car inside or out. Still cannot.

Drives beautifully: absolutely faultless car. Returns about 38mpg, Cheap motoring.

Cars are cheap and getting cheaper. God help car dealers. If you are a buyer look for a bargain, bid down. The Tacuma was advertised at £2650. I thought it was fair value at that price just kept calling till the price dropped.

I've bought from Evans Halshaw before. They will not move on price and they will add about £150-200 in HPI, inspections etc. The car I bought did have worn and mismatched tyres and as part of the deal they replaced them at cost price.

VW re-introduced the old 1.6 engine because they ran out of capacity to build the 1.4TSI, which was the replacement engine.

The TSI has more power, better economy and lower emissions, meaning it's cheaper to tax and cheaper to fuel.

As such, the 1.6FSI is the engine to avoid.

Sorry to be negative about it. But it's this cheap because it's an awkward price for a car like this.

People have £3k to spend on a small second hand hatch. £7k buys you a lot lot more elsewhere though. I've really struggled to sell this type of car in this price bracket before. I suppose too much for a small loan, if you had the money then you would likely be able to spend it on a lot more, and if you were financing you could get a lot more for your money
