our rather expensive Alcoholics Anonymous breakdown cover has expired.

I like breakdown cover - I like the knowledge that a very nice non rapist man will assist my wife when she fills the car with diesel or drives 20 miles on a flat.

However, 25 quid a month is more than a little salty at the moment. (especially as we have never used the cover...... yet <touch wood> *smirk* )

Who offers the best value for money at the moment? - its a relatively old car - 1995 and 150K miles, so it probably is a good idea!

I pay about £16 quid a month with the AA, and thats with stay mobile cover and the one where they pay £500 towards any repair smile Worth it imo on an older car like mine.

ADAC have been brilliant to me. Clutch went (on the way to buy a new clutch, ironically)
They were there within the time it took me to eat an ice cream and read the sports pages.
Plus I have cover throughout europe

I stick with the AA, however, I also ring to discuss my renewal price. At the minute I pay a tenner a month for both me and the wife in any car, just to get recovered home though (if they can't fix it roadside)

No complaints about GEM Motoring Assist from me (although I've only used them once so far).
Cheap too.

Cheers,
Tom

The Panda has it included and if we have it serviced by the dealer we bought it from then break down cover is £20 for 12 months. (Full RAC cover)

hmmm. thats what we have been merrily (ahem) paying 25 a month for.

Think a phone call will be in order in the morning.

Many thanks you all, information is always useful!

AA will reduce the price if you threaten to leave.

I normally go RAC one year and switch to the AA the next in order to get the introductary discounts.

I have over the years carried various levels of cover from Full Fat to Roadside with the AA.
And yes it does get a little sharp renewing Full Fat.

On the other hand............

This time last week I was just getting home from a stty day and of the cars we have the 'Best' died on the M1.

With "Roadside" they did a cracking / quick job to get me off the Motorway.
Then............ relieved me of £271 to upgrade and load me up and get me home 130 miles away.

As all things in life - read / check your cover.
They tried this with me earlier this year as ide only renewed roadside by accident, i told them that for 270 quid i could get a taxi home and fetch my car myself with the landy and trailer, after a quick chat with a manager it was suddenly ok for me to upgrade for sixty quid.

RAC "Personal", covers you and a named member of your household as a driver or passenger in any vehicle.

Currently £99 or £10.50 per month online for roadside + recovery

http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/ Husband and spouse covered for £38.
The downside is that you have to carry a credit card in order to pay direct for services and then claim back from Autoaid.
Their payment comes in about 14 days. Also the wait at the roadside is at least 1 hour, so may not be suitable for all.

Had ETA for the last year, used once. 1 car 1 bike, 90 days European cover, and (I think) cover any car you're travelling in, or maybe one youre insured of that isn't named specifically on the policy, cant remember; either way - was under £100, deal.

I have AA roadside and take you to any destination of your choice, which works out about £50 a year after the cashback you receive from Quidco.

Same here. ADAC are excelent.
Full European cover for ₤5,60 per month.
I broke down in Tolouse in September.
Shipped my car back to the Workshop of my choice in England. Rental car to continue my 5 day drive up to Clais and another rental waiting for me in Dover.
They are great.
