Franchise Dealers Supplying Tyres
Discussion
I am sure that I am preaching to the converted here, but a reminder anyway.
My BMW was at the dealer's last week for some service work and the dealer carried out a "free" health check.
Report came back that a new tyre was required and a good attempt was made to railroad me into ordering the tyre from the dealer. I baulked at the price though - £324.00.
Five minutes on the net and I had got that down to £212.00.
I think the term is daylight robbery.

I'd agree most of the time, but there is the odd occasion that they are good value.
About a week after I got my Z4MC (on 19" CSL wheels) I got a slash in the sidewall or my rear PS2. The dealer was the cheapest (£270 fitted) of anywhere that had them in stock - the in stock bit was important as I don't have a spacesaver, and the mobility kit won't cure a 5 inch slash in the sidewall, and I was about 100 miles from my destination (knew I shouldn't have taken that 'short-cut').

On the flip side, our Toyota franchise has some fixed price items that aren't too bad.
Brake pad prices match the local indy, and tyres are broadly the same price fitted as Blackcircles/mytyres online
I used to work in part for Toyota. They seem to be a brand that actually realises that they will get more customers if their prices match or better the competition. Some of the deals we ran on parts were far better than some local motor factors and we had a good retail customer base thanks to that.Brake pad prices match the local indy, and tyres are broadly the same price fitted as Blackcircles/mytyres online

Just wait until you need a part that you can only buy genuine. Toyota aren't stupid and charge a hefty premium for these.

..and bear in mind that they often get Kwik Fit mobile in to do them.A Mercedes dealer gave me a price for a couple of rear tyres on my car and I thought "that's not bad". Then he said "each".

Our local Honda dealer is pretty good too. Never bought tyres off them yet, but they have swopped tyres on replacement alloys under warranty and they do them in house and did a good job.Edited by Deva Link on Monday 5th December 18:09
My local Volvo dealer used to be good. They price matched other places for tyres.
The Mazda dealer tried to get me to buy 2 new Continental Contact Sports - or whatever they are called, saying they were the only one the manufacturer reccomended. He was stumped when I asked why both my Mazdas - both bought new - had Bridgestones on them from the factory.
The price he quoted was something daft too.
Then I asked them of the needed replacing. Its done as part of the service came the reply. We Reccomend it.
I asked if it would fail an MOT with those tyres. He admitted it would not.
I thanked him and just asked him to carry out the 20 thousand mile service and that any replacements needed not covered by the warranty shoudl be put on a list for me to look at. There was no list.
My local tyre place which is very cheap and cheaper than the internet, told me there was a bit of life in them and to come back in a month or so.
