Thinking of an MR2 Tubby.. Help!

So, I know with the way the last two winters have been and 20 miles between me and my place of work this is potential suicide in a tin (or t-bar, to be precise) but ive always, always hankered for one and they seem to have massively dropped in price lately! Ive seen at least 3 decent looking rev 3's around for circa 2k, I could have sworn they were going for a lot more than that not so long ago..

So, first and foremost.. What happened?! Did the price of Vpower and rising insurance costs just completely put everyone off owning one? Or has it just been that long since I looked..

Secondly - please can someone put me off this rediculous idea... I drive a 1.9 tdi a4 sport and know the fuel is going to cost me the same amount as a small mortgage doing 200-300 miles a week!

Does anyone have any insight or ideas? Im not normally one for rash decisions, but I know what I want and I know the Audi just isnt going to feel the same again now The only other thought I had was the get the A4 chipped, but thats just a recipe for a busted clutch in < 10k miles time I reccon..
