Manufacturer warranty on 2nd hand car missing services?

I am in the early stages of looking at a second hand HONDA ACCORD DIESEL TOURER 2.2 i-CTDi EX 5dr and have found one on the offical Honda Website.
Its a early 07 Reg car, 1 owner a small publishing company. I asked the salesman today if it had the service bulletin updates and checks that this car requires as well asking about the servcing history and any warranty work seeing as these cars are liable to crack exhaust manifolds and tailgate motors failing.
He got back to me today stating that the car has had one service at 17k miles in Nov 2010 (at the same supplying dealership that is selling the car), with the car now on 22k miles.
He says that Honda have checked the car over (doesn't all manufacturers selling warranted vehicles) and it will be covered by the Honda 12 month warranty.
2 questions,
1. My gut feel is to not even consider a car that did 17k miles over 2.5 years with no oil changes
2. Can Honda possibly wriggle out of any issues after the 12 month period is passed?
Any thoughts welcomed.

Hmmm...it's 3.5yrs isn't it - 07 reg to Nov 10?
And I would have thought a small publishing company would be charging about all over the place, but it only did 17K miles? It doesn't even make sense to buy a diesel for that level of use.
Honda don't do longlife servicing.
Having said all that, if it's sold as approved used then I'd expect that to "legalise" the car's history with any manufacturer. And Honda's reputation for sorting thinsg out of warranty is legendary.

My car has 20k service intervals, and I've run many a snotter with no oil changes for 20k+Cheers
I've never managed 2.5years without an oil change though, in fact I've only had one car last me 2.5 years!!!
Have you asked the dealer about this? get their assurances in writing?!

Your right is is more than 2.5 years, only other thing to potentially worry about is that these diesel units are prone to using a little oil, I am used to that with the ATR but do worry about this car not even being topped up in 3.5 years.
If there were a load of reciepts for oil top ups then I would feel a little better. I will call them tomorrow.

They can use oil - so perhaps that makes up for not changing it!
Seems odd - would someone buy a brand-new car (and not a particularly cheap one at that) and not bother getting it serviced? Maybe it was done at a non-franchised garage.
It'll rev to 5K, I think. I had one on test for a few days and may well have bought one but I really wanted an auto - however the engine is so flexible that of all the manuals I tried I reckon I could have lived with the Accord.

I will get them to contact the previous owner who they know apparently and see what they have to say. The thing is that while the majority of PH'ers stick to service schedules religiously other drive their cars until warning lights go on!
Glasses have it valued at £9.9k, dealer has it up at £10.9k. If I can get an extension on the warranty, new tyres, full service including all fluids changed, air-con serrvice I will probably pay the asking price.
