Does anyone on here have any useful feedback on the breakdown/ recovery alternative policies offerred by means of an insurance claim? Autoaid are an example

These are where you are covered for breakdown in a traditional way except you pay upfront for your recovery and claim costs back of the company.

Does this work effectively - any horror stories or positives you could relay

This does make sense to paying £200 a year for a service you may not use

I did have an AutoAid policy for a couple of years but never needed to us it.

Research didn't flag up any issues, expect that they tend to be more focussed on recovery than roadside repair unless the repair is obvious and very straightforward.

Have you seen the MoneySavingExpert thread on them? http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/roadsid... (that's the whole article, there's a link to experiences using Autoaid there too).

If you mean breakdown cover as part of your policy then this is what I have and have used it on several occasions in the past through Adrian Flux.

Im covered to be picked up and taken to 1 place.

So in the past I have been taken direct to a garage if they are open and others I have had it taken home then towed it to the garage the following day.

I couldn't take it home say 9 at night and then ring backup to take it to the garage the following morning.

I've used GEM and Autoaid in the past and had to claim on both. No problems. Cheque comes back in post and unfortunately that means a visit to the bank (unless they have changed their systems to pay by transfer).
