anyone know what the renewal prices are for various uk breakdown covers?

None of them say what they charge when it comes to renewals.

I don't know exact numbers, but it was cheaper for me to join the RAC as a new customer than it was to take their renewal offer. That's how they reward loyalty, wkers!

Ditto I got it much cheaper as a new customer than a renewal last time. Bit of a piss boiler tbh.

At renewal time you simply phone them up and tell them what their opposition are offering the service for - they will complain that you had two call outs etc, but you remind them that this isn't car insurance and their attempt at starting a no-claims bonus is irrelevant when their competition take no notice...if they won't price match (which in my experience they will, and better) then simply go to the other provider. A good example of competition actually working in the consumers favour.

We got £60 off our joint AA membership this month.
They came down £40 straight away without us even haggling!

My wife paid £28 for AA cover. They wanted £60 for free Relay before that. "So how, if it's £28, is Relay free" she asked. It's just the way the computer works...

At the moment be wary of joing Green Flag, they've just reduced the number of agents working from them from about 300 to 178 folloowing a 18 month tender process.

They've gone for the Super Agent approach which in real terms means one garage gets all the work inside the M25 etc. The agent that has got the M4 corridor as far as Bristol is actually a garage based in West Sussex and at this time has no bases in that area at all.

It's going to be very interesting once the weather starts getting bad. Honestly, I can see members waiting an awful long time. Luckily I'm not a GF agent so have no axe to grind, but they certainly won't get my money.

Back onto the original question, I've just covered 3 vehicles with Autonational Rescue for £94. Roadside and Recovery, don't need homestart on my policy as I can move them myself.

I got our AA renewal through last month, they quoted £194.

One phone call to their "thinking of leaving us" option and the renewal came down by £104!!

And KwikFit would have done it for £30 odd.

With these really cheap deals make sure you know what you're getting. I've had a lot of very unhappy members when they're told that their recovery cover is only for up to 10 miles or into the nearest garage, rather than full uk coverage. If you want to go further, the member is liable for any excess mileage which is charged at the garages standard rate.

Chief culprits are the memberships that come with bank accounts.

I can't say much, but I can say services have improved. In terms of response times, roadside repairs and customer feedback.

I had my AA renewal sent though about two weeks back. It was halved by one phone call.

I use Autoaid, £38 per year for me and my wife, any car, and including home start etc. The drawback is that it's an insurance policy so you need to pay for it, then claim back later.
The couple of times I have used it they have paid very quickly, and I have had a cheque in my hand before the credit card bill was in. Waiting time in both cases was about 30 minutes, and renewal has always been the same as the advertised rate for new customers. Can't complain, really!

I've always used http://www.britanniarescue.com/

Not sure they are massively cheap anymore. But Service has been excellent the 4 times I've needed them. Particularly fast response when I broke down 300yds around the corner from an agents depot. I didn't even know it was there. If I'd known I'd have limped it onto their forecourt.

I utilised my wife's membership when the Golf broke down on a Saturday a few weeks back. response was about 35 minutes and the service fantastic, eventually having the car towed to a local garage which took some finding at that time.

Look at their website price. Trust me, one phonecall and that is the maximum an existing customer will pay.
