Kenwood head unit "protect" mode....

Ive got a kenwood KDC-241 head unit thats having a coma.... one of my speaker connections was loose so i was adjusting it when the sound cut completely, i checked the head unit, the display is flashing "protect" and all of the functions are completely disabled... ive tried all the buttons plus the default "turn it off and on" routine but no joy.....
