I heard from a friend in insurance that smurfs on the back of cars are part of the "crash into the back of me and we'll do a deal" type insurance scam.

How much truth is in that, i don't really know.

I believe it's come from the Japanese drift scene. Sadly most cars I see with something hanging from the rear are front wheel drive.

Was originally a jap scene thing to show how low your car is. Most cars round here have angry birds teddies stuck to the back.

Adopted by the dub scene too. Apparently "your car is slammed if the toy touches the floor" ( the response I got when I asked a kid in a polo with a very dirty angry bird stuck to the rear tow eye)

Some of the replies on that page are hilarious. hehe

"I have my son's first timberlands hanging from my rear tow loop. They are my good luck charm until some homeless pregnant imigrant steals them for her unborn probably ginger child."

That has brightened up my day.

Surely that just depends on the length of the chain?

I think if I had said that to the driver of the "gangsta polo" his head would have exploded.

I was going to mention something about people hanging off the back of the Eurostar but it's probably better not said...

Soon they will realise how crap the entire "drift" thing is, not just the stupid toys and sticking tow hooks on their cars to impress their mates in the local Asda car park.

Do people dislike drifting because it's not "real racing"? THere are plenty of other non motorsports which are points based.

Have a cool drifitng vid: http://vimeo.com/23193461

Drifting is fine by me, it's the "scene" around it that I find sad, especially when the toys are applied to a FWD car. But it's not nearly as sad as slamming and blackboarding.
