Guys,

Hypothetical question...

Fitting a 195 to a 215 rim isn't straight forward.

It can involve spraying a higly flammable aerosol under the tyre and igniting it.

The detonation causes the tyre to fill instantly and make an air tight seal on the rim.

If for about half a second after ignition there was a blister/bulge one inch wide on the side wall of the tyre...

Would the tyre be ruined?

Best regards,
Sir Blade

215(mm) is typically a tyre measurement. The rim width will be in inches, what's the actual rim width? 7 inches, 7.5, 8 etc etc.

If there was a bulge then I wouldn't use the tyre

If it showed a bulge as it inflated, the carcass has a weak spot and it is fked. Junk it.

I'd probably put the right sized tyre on the right sized wheel and avoid setting fire to things altogether.

If your tyre has a bulge on it it will not pass an MOT and if the Police stop you at the side of the road (which will be likely when they see your badly fitted tyres) you'll get yourself a fine and 3 points.

Yes, the tyre would be ruined. They weren't designed to be set fire to during mounting. Only a fekkin retard wouldn't know that a bulge is death to a tyre.

This may have been asked before, but given that insurance companies were being funny about snow tyres, presumably people fitting streched tyres are telling their insurers, and they are OK about it.

(What's that you say, they don't tell the insurers, never!)

This 'Hypothetical situation' could never happen anyway- why would a bulge appear for a few seconds then go away? Presumably the pressure isn't high enough to cause the bulge, and once the sidewall is damaged, the bulge isn't just going to go away, is it? Even if somehow the pressure reduced as the air cooled, surely any bulge would re-appear once the tyre is inflated to the correct pressure?
As everyone else said; your rim is too wide for your tyre, just get a rim/tyre which fit!?

Hypothetically I wouldn't want to be anywhere near anyone who was so retarded to do what you're suggesting!

The old lighter fluid/lighter trick is common practice in certain off-roading circles by the way, where the tyres are too distorted for the beads to seat. Would be a bit silly to do the same on a normal car, where a compressor probably would've sufficed, rendering the tyre useless, wouldn't it?

I'm aware of that, I have fitted plenty of tyres, plenty of which were too narrow for the rim (not for my cars, I hasten to add).

ETA: I should add that I have never resorted go setting fire to them, and have never ruined a tyre.

OP, you appear to have mixed up your forum logins - this is PH, not "cruzin.innit.com".

Even though this is a nonsense (lighting gas? Is this a monster 4WD tyre and are you stuck up a glacier?) I will comment that 195 and 215 tyres will usually fit on the same rim.

I have a car with 7" rims for which both 195/65/15 and 215/60/15 are the manufacturer recommended sizes.

OP: hypothetically, youre a wally.

Seriously though. Why?

It must be a sign I'm getting old.. but its done for 'style' I'm guessing?

I really wouldnt feel safe giving a car some welly when the tyres are stretched to buggery - wouldnt you get problems with the walls wearing + rims getting bashed?

you misinterpreted my reply, it is not my cup of tea......

...some think it is cool.

I think it look ridiculous, and must be dangerous to drive on as the tires are not designed to be used in this way

That is silly, however: some stretch is desirable and it was necessary for racing until not too long ago...
