Which petrol engine emits the least pollution and burns the cleanest?

The results may surprise you.

Well just goes to show that CO2 is only part of the picture. Modern testing criteria seem to forget about the 'nasties' that come out of our exhausts and obsess on CO2.

Clearly you can't fool nature!

This was posted else where on here I think.

No surprise about a 2 stroke. Burns fuel every 360 deg of crank as opposed to a 4 stroke and they burn oil. Infact on my leaf blower you have to add lube to the fuel. Small lawn mowers and leaf blowers also don't have catalysts or any need to conform to emission regs. So they don't.

I can't remember what was Said but someone mentioned that the test is based on volume and so as a percentage of volume the truck comes out ahead because it's massive 6.8 litres means there's more air to dilute the emissions with. Not sure that makes sense since its not like you can deviate much from an AFR of 14.7:1 for petrol cars.

Indeed... CO2 is harmless, it's the other nasties you need to watch out for and the 6.2 V8 in the F150 demonstrates that bigger engines can be cleaner and more environmentally friendly than little 1.4 litre 4 cylinders
