Evening all,

Has anyone fitted a different starter button to their car? I'm toying with the idea.

I've seen a Spitfire button fitted to someones car which looks pretty good.

Anyone got any other interesting ones?

Cheers

What car are you potentially fitting it to?

should be easy enough to fit a starter button to actually start the engine, but you'll still need to use the key to disengage the steering lock so it would be rather pointless.

I disagree, if its OEM from factory (s2000 etc) then its OK, if its added to a Corsa then its chavvy.

An MX5 I'm toying with until early next year.

I'm thinking something like this:

Honda Civics had a similar system, I'd always put the key in the ignition, turn it then wonder why the car wouldn't start before remembering that you had to press a button.

Indeed. Utterly stupid gimmicky idea with no practical benefit whatsoever.

I don't see the difference between having it in an S2000 or a Corsa (except for the fact that you have no choice in an S2000) - it's still ridiculous.

as long as it "fits" in with the car interior then they look fine, but cheap aftermarket ones stuck randomly around don't really look that good, but each to their own, that starter button looks cool would be a nice addition to a proper classic motor or kit car.

You're welcome to your opinion. Lots of things have no practical benefit, people do them/have them because they want to.

So... As I didn't start this for opinions on their function, rather for examples anyone has of ones they like...

Feel free to post some details people.

Cheers

It may have been designed for this...

Indeed hence my initial comment being that it'd be easy to fit - it you want one, I'm not going to say you shouldn't. smile

All you need to to is splice the circuit that closes as you engage the starter out of the loom as it enters the ignition barrel and run it to the switch. You should even be able to leave the ignition barrel in parallel with the button so if something goes wrong you can still use the key to engage the starter motor.

My thoughts - if you WANT to do it and it makes you HAPPY then do it! Life is short etc etc.

Then again they can be hard to fit and you could be opening a can of worms, for me I wouldnt bother.

Is it a case of you have done everything else you want to the car and you cant think of anything else? or is it an inner child thing about having a racing car with a starter button?

Ridiculous maybe but its FUN... its a BIG RED button saying "engine start", appeals to the 10 year old boy inside me - thats my excuse and im sticking to it!

Surely a starting handle would be even better?

Although with modern transverse engines, you'd probably have to poke it though the wheel to get to the end of the crank. hehe

I dont particularly like the button on my S2000, it seems pointless on a car with a standard ignition key. If the car had a keyless sytem then I could understand it, but as it doesnt it is completely unecessary.

I love starting the car with the handle, makes you feel like a proper petrol head!
