With only 10k miles a year I dont think it really makes getting a diesel worth while. And the distance you cover probably wont get proper use of a diesel. It needs to be running warmed up for quite a while before you see the benefits.

My suggestion is something not a Fiesta... You've already got experience of the Fiesta, lifes to short, why not try some other cars?

I'd be biased and recommend a Suzuki Ignis Sport. Insurance should be too bad, I was 19 when I first got my Ignis and I was roughly £900 or so for my insurance.

Fiat Panda 100 could also be within budget, not had too much first hand experience with them but they seem quite popular with the PH masses.

If you're not too worried about the Age of the car I'd suggest a Ford Puma 1.7 . Again, the PH masses seem to really rate these little cars, still sticking with a familiar Ford, and quite nice examples could be had well within budget, leaving the rest of the budget towards insurance.

Hmm yeah your probably right, a diesel is more expensive to insure aswell for some reason confused

I hadn't thought of the Fiat Panda 100, i actually really like them but always thought the insurance would be sky high, i've got a quote for £1200 so not too bad and it seems to get really good reviews so that's a possibility smile

The Suzuki is too expensive on insurance really but still a possibility if i could find one cheap enough as they seem to be well within budget.

I've never really liked the look of the Puma too be honest so i wouldn't really consider that.

Thankyou for your suggestions though smile

My Ka is for sale at the moment. It's a mean machine. It's also blue.

I'd give you a link but the forum rozzers would bum me.

I bet it is rusty as well, looked at 3 sport KA's last week, all 05 plate and had all covered less than 30k miles and all had rust.

Set a new trend and buy a Honda Jazz. They tick of your boxes, but you'll need the 1.4

It may be a tad girly, but the Mk1 Ka is a cracking little motor.

I quite like this thread. biggrin

I will be looking at my First Car in Feb 2012 time, but your budget is higher than mine so I get to look at nice cars... hehe

I found these:

2007 Fiat Panda 100HP 1.4 16v

Best colour for the Panda IMO. smile

Or...

Another 2007 Panda

It appears that the Panda 100hp only just comes in budget. thumbup

Another suggestion...

2004(ish) face-lifted Honda Civic 1.6 Type S?

I think i probably need to drive one of these pandas first to see if i like it or not smile

According to the reviews its great to drive though so, that grey one is actually not too far away from me, if its for sale in january still i might go for a test drive or something smile

Diesel mk4 golf?
Fills all of your criteria (good to drive, don't know) and will probably leave you with money to spare.
