Twunt in an Audi A5
Discussion
Witnessed a complete twunt in an Audi A5 deliberately force a motorcyclist into a dangerous situation just now.
Young kid on a 50cc motorbike with L-plates in a 40mph limit. I saw him wanting to pass me so I moved over towards the curb for him (ungrateful sod didn't thank me though) and the A5 in front of me moved right out toward the white line to block but the kid committed anyway and started his overtake approaching a bend. Because he was so underpowered he was alongside the A5 as they were taking the bend and the A5 moved out even further so he was on the white lines and forced the motorcyclist onto the wrong side of the road on an unsighted bend.
What a complete cock-end! Yes, the kid should have backed off but is it right for the Audi driver to try to kill him for daring to overtake?
So if you're the owner of a blue Audi A5 registration "R10 LEY" and are reading this, you, sir, are a w
ker who really needs to consider his actions.

ker who really needs to consider his actions. That is pretty shocking - it is one thing for the kid on the scooter to try an ambitious overtake, but it is just stupid and dangerous for the A5 driver to do that.
I guess it is either the "no one shall overtake me" mentality, or just crappy driving to begin with. Hopefully the A5 driver will get stopped for their dangerous driving some time soon.

Sounds pretty much like the twunt on the scooter riding like a cock TBH. Needs to learn quickly before he becomes another statistic, the scare might have been good for him.
Devils advocate mode on (none of us were there after all
), maybe what happened is:
1. A5 driver sees scooter rider overtake you.
2. A5 driver thinks "bend coming up, I'll move out to hint to the scooter rider that overtaking maybe unsafe"
3. A5 driver "assumes" scooter has given up on overtake
4. Meanwhile scooter rider is in the blind spot so A5 driver doesn't see him
5. A5 driver adjusts his position for the bend
Anyway, sounds like maybe both of them were being bellends

I agree with that. Maybe the Audi driver didn't want to be going around the bend in the gutter with the bike next to him? If the bike swerves then the Audi's off the road. One thing they teach in Advanced Driving is 'bold positioning' - but it's a bugger when you do position your vehicle boldly and someone still tries to get past!
Yes, the kid took an ambitious overtake where he didn't have the power to do it. But we've all been there as kids. Don't forget you can get your L-plates at 16 for a scooter (although this was an actual motorbike, but it made that farty tinny sound like a scooter and had no acceleration, so it's a reasonable assumption it was a 50cc).
As someone has already said, it is not for the Audi driver to try to "educate" the motorcyclist; he's not Judge Dredd and the penalty for trying to overtake an Audi A5 shouldn't be punishable by death.
Hopefully they will BOTH learn something by their actions, but sadly I think neither will. Just hope that the kid on the motorcycle lives long enough to learn when you should and shouldn't overtake.

If the A5 driver had moved him into a dangerous position and the learner lad on the scooter had lost control and hit the deck, he could have been badly injured or worse, run over by oncoming traffic. Yes, he probably shouldn't have been trying to overtake at that point, but it serves no additional purpose to block a lad on a bike trying to get by.
There are far too many people with this mentality these days. It all seems to revolve around getting to B just that little bit quicker.

He was after all the following vehicle so the responsibility for a safe overtake falls squarely on his shoulders.

I have no problem with that whatsoever, and was indeed taught that by both IAM and RideDrive. However, an Advanced Driver would have seen that the motorcyclist was committed and that the driver was now endangering him and adjusted his line accordingly. To continue to hold the line and, worse, move out even further was inadvisable in the situation.
The A5 is the thrusty agressive knob chariot of choice at the moment, seems to be the holy grail for the company car driving user chooser middle management bundle of rage. Nice enough car but I have seen several being driven utter cretins, liek the one that flew past at say 80/90 mph when I was on my push bike being in a race with a Skoda Fabia VRS who pursuing, went past at a similar speed but a bit further out, or the one parked on a blind bend near us forcing people into the road.

He'd moved himself into a dangerous position by overtaking on a single carriageway approaching an unsighted bend.CypherP said:

Probably?CypherP said:

Yep, like the twunt on the scooter...Cupramax said:
And the moped driver for attempting a dangerous manouevre... (not condoning the A5's tactics either).
This also - like I said it is one thing attempting an ambitious overtake (which he has hopefully learned was a bad idea!) but it is another forcing them further into oncoming traffic on a corner. Both were in the wrong, but the A5 driver went out of their way to put the moped driver in further danger. They both need their heads bashed together

The fact is, had the Audi not blocked, the kid could have completed his overtake before the bend. But because of the blocking the kid hesitated and then decided to go for the overtake anyway. As I have said several times, I think the kid made the wrong decision and it was an inadvisible overtake by the time he decided to commit, but the situation developed because of the Audi's blocking and then was further compounded by the Audi continuing to block.

Indeed; a fair appraisal of the situation. And motorcyclists are incredibly vulnerable so the danger he was put into could have been fatal. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
