Mercedes SL images leaked

Brochure pics reveal 2012 Mercedes SL - now with updated images

Update: following yesterday's grainy images, a whole horde of 'proper' photos of bext year's SL have now surfaced, we present them for your appraisal...

The new Mercedes SL-class has been leaked to the interweb, courtesy of these brochure images published by the fine folks at Autoblog.nl.

There's not a lot else to say, really, other than 'it seems to look like an SLK, only a bit bigger'...

Full details of the car will be revealed when the car gets its proper motor show debut in Detroit in January 2012.

Though we fully expect the new 'R231' SLto get a range of V8s, V6s and possibly even a V12...

On the front 3/4 picture:

The headlamp design and the angle that the headlamp units sit, is very reminiscent of the original R107 headlamp and indicator units....... Very nice touch. The rest of the car (stylistically) is very evolutionary as opposed to revolutionary. But I don’t have a problem with that and think it looks good. I think the styling suits the proportions much better than it does the SLK.

Edited to add picture.

It's not exactly elegant, is it? Bulbous, perhaps, both inside and out. In fact the dash looks like Chris Eubank's face. And what is going on with those headlamps. No doubt we'll get used to it, but I can't see it lasting 18 years.

I will help, no, you do not like it wink

Front looks good imo, interior is nice, but the rear does not look very elegant, and the sides look a bit slabby and outdated. Poor show Mercedes frown

I'm glad they're making some proper clearly aesthetic distinction between the SL and the SLK.

Bloody hell - those headlights look just like the ones on our Astra vans at work!

Think I'll stick with my R129 Silver Arrow!

Someone in Poland will have converted the current model to look like that by the end of the week.

From this:

I think this was a real high point for the SL.

The new one just looks wrong in these pics. Proportions look all over the place.

As with most new cars, i'll have to see it in the metal to make sense.

As with so many cars styling these days, there are lines that just look wrong.

That headlight treatment does not look very elegant, if fact it looks awful.

The SL has always been an elegant car, that usually improve with age.

This looks just like the last one, but with an ugly facelift.

Hope it looks better in the metal, as first impression is that this will not age well. Actually, is this really an all-new car or is it a reskin like the latest SLK?

I totally agree with you. I don't dislike the new one but the front end has lost the elegance the original/previous model had and frankly I don't think the back and front belong on the same car. The interior is sweet though!

Agree, still looks fresh and elegant inside as well as outside.

Errm, allowing for the grainy pics, the styling looks to be a complete non-event for me.

Very disappointing after the glorious SLS and generic Merc/SLK styling

Hmm, looks like they've copied the front end of the new 6-series to me, which wasn't a good idea.
