Dodgy Dealer Service
Discussion
Friends car was serviced by a franchised dealer (Audi) 2 weeks ago
250 miles later the oil light comes on due to low oil
Oil level is just under minimum on the dipstick and it takes a litre of oil to get it to maximum
No leaks, etc. No faults on the car.
It appears the dealer did not fill it up.
Charged £225 for an oil service (oil and filter plus "checks")
What would you do/ expect the dealer to do in these circumstances ?

100% sure there is no leak?
I would expect them to top it up for free and a quick apology, nothing more nothing less.
What are you expecting? A written apology for the CEO, £10000 in compensation, a free detail and a complimentary R8?
Had it on ramps today and no leak. Dealer error by the looks of it. The car is only 18 months old with minimal mileage.I would expect them to top it up for free and a quick apology, nothing more nothing less.

It's just the shoddy workmanship that concerns me. Especially on something so simple but with potentially serious consequences. And being charged £225 for the priveledge.
Sort of the same situation as a car being damaged in the dealership. You go back and they'll probably say they topped it up fully and charged the oil out accordingly on the invoice. They're probably say sorry, top it up and bung you a litre free as a goodwill gesture. Some dealers will use tub oil, some will have bulk oil and a pump and if it's posh, it'll be pump with a gauge and the tech should have recorded how much he put in on the job card. A TDI does like a drink, some are worse than others but it's not unheard of for a TDi140 or TDi170 to drink a litre of Longlife oil in less than 750 miles... so 250 miles is a third of an oil give or take and if the oil wasn't brimmed to max, 250 miles could be enough to pop the light on. Or indeed, the filter was changed, oil filled and checked then the car started and the oil filter sooked up half a litre and the level wasn't rechecked.
Pure speculation... but I'm sure they'll happily top it up, check for any leaks and send you on your way with an extra litre in the boot for your troubles.
Perhaps

Thats why you go to an indy and get an oil service done for £50.
And the rest. Any decent indy who advertises themselves as, and is known amongst owners as, a specialist of that marque will charge a lot more than £50. I've found many who charge more than the main dealers. And on an 18 month old car you don't want Bobs Motors stamps in the service book.

How do you know they didn't fill it up ?
Was the oil new, or just low ? Maybe they put the wrong amount of oil in ..
Because the car never uses oil but it was low (ie oil light) 2 weeks after the cars first serviceWas the oil new, or just low ? Maybe they put the wrong amount of oil in ..
Actually, the oil does not look new which aroused my suspicions about what the dealer had done and whether or not they had changed the oil at all
It's a tdi though and I am informed (by independent sources) that the oil turns black pretty much straight away (it was a new one on me).
