Toyobaru: will it drift?

Er...yes. And how. Liking the new GT 86/BRZ/Scion FR-S yet?

It's all gone a bit quiet on the Toyobaru front lately, but this video has prompted us to return the diminutive coupe to the PH homepage.

It's actually the Scion FR-S, the version of the GT 86/BRZ that's being sold under Toyota's US brand and aimed specifically at the young and funky.

To which end, Scion invited competitive drifter and racer Ken Gushi to chuck an FR-S around Sodeguara Forest Raceway, complete with several cameras and a side order of rain. The result? Some most amusing hooning.

And to help win over those disappointed by the Toyobaru's looks, we spotted these pics of a GReddy-tweaked version of the Scion in the GT 86 first drive thread.

Beauty is of course in the eye of the beholder, but lowered, on those wheels, and with its black paint glinting in the winter sunshine, the Scion looks pretty good, we reckon.

Looks much better than the other two, shame we won't get that version here.

Yeah we will, that's all from GReddys parts bin. It's been modified. The Scion looks exactly the same as the Toyota version that we get over here.

That and the lowered stance immeasurably improve on the standard looks. Also, shiny glossed black is of course better than ginger in the paint dept.

The Japs always do that, along with clutch kicks and all sorts. Mainly to unbalance the rear, because the brake bias is to the front.

Being a Scion it should be relatively cheap, no...? Looks great.

Neither does my Mr2 but its easy enough to get the back end out in the wet and i am not a drift king either.
Just found it strange they have to use the handbrake

Ah yes but an MR2 is usually somewhat difficult to keep in a straight line at the best of times...
