just chatting to a friend and seemingly we are washing away money every time we wash our cars. she actually makes a very valid point road dust is valuable and a actually potentially a decent revenue stream if someone starts collecting it and processing it ie who ever sweeps the streets. it seems there are more precious metals on the roads than there is being mined these days !

On a slightly different note, I've always wondered whether if you never washed a car from new if the paint would be in better condition years down the line.

they are there is apparently more platinum, rhodium and palladium in road dust around the world than there is left to be mined it seems. so if you collect all the dust from street sweepers you can process it and recover teh metals at the moment its just dumped into land fill

Dust off the side of a busy road has more platinum in it then a hi-grade platinum ore due to tiny bits coming off of catalytic converters

If there was, I'm sure there would be a very efficient collection system in every sewer. Sorry, but the story sounds like utter bull.
