well not exactly

was sat in the carpark today, when some oldish lady came past with half a key in her hand, asking if i knew who owned the car in front of hers?

anyway, turns out she had snapped her key in the doorlock, and was stuck, blocking in the other car.

she looked panicked and i asked her if she minded if i hotwired it for her to get her going again!

she agreed, so i ripped the cowling off from round the wheel, used a pair of scissors to snip and strip the wires, got it started then educated her in the ways of starting the now hotiwred car!

before i did this i turned the wheel to see if there was a steering lock, but there wasnt, which i thought was odd, but as she drove off, she stopped! steering lock came on! i dont think she had engaged it before she left the car in the first place

so i jump back in the car with a flat headed screwdriver, and rip the barrel out and in turn, removing the steering lock metaly thing!

she was over the moon, as id saved her a whole world of AA, and rip off garages! she offered me money for my trouble, which i kindly declined, and off she went on her merry way!

id like to think that if i ever got into a situation that i couldnt manage to get out of myself, then someone would take the time out to help me like i helped her!

my good deed for the day thumbup

why not get the door open (smash a window at worst), handbrake off and push it out the way...drive old Doris home to get a spare key?

Good deed done - with minimal damage , she's now got to get her whole ignition barrel changed/steering column depending on car i'd imagine, because someone offered to help and effectively stole her car for her?

I had to park a car for someone once in a multi-storey because the person was having trouble with it. When I got in the car I realised I'd forgotten to post a letter and the Post Office was shutting soon so I just drove off. 30 minutes later I came back and slotted it right in to an empty space. The lady thanked me profusely and even asked me if I'd like to adopt her newborn that unbeknowst to me had been sat in the back the whole time. I politely declined.

So let's clear this up early doors. What car was it and how did you remove the steering lock with only a screwdriver?
Secondly, what did the other poor soul do who had half of someone else's key in his door?

and when you've done that one i've snapped the key to my ferrari in the local showroom - dont worry theyre storing it for me but i've snapped the key to the front door of the building so you'll need to sort that for me too.

rofl the door was open, she snapped the key in the lock.

i did offer to take her to get a spare, but she said she didnt have one, she came across as one of these valley types, that only come to civilisation to buy neccesseties (speeeling)

she said she was only running it till the mot ran out, which was a couple of months away she said

she was happy anyway! although, if i ever see it, i know its dead easy to steal seeing as the doors cant be locked and its already hotwired with no ignition barrel and steering lock rofl

How was the car park arranged so that her car blocked in another?

used the flat headed screwdriver to break up the plastic that holds the igntion barrel in place, once the barrels out, u can rip the rest of said plastic off, enabling the chunky pin type thing to fall out of the ring that locks the wheel.

maybe i should have taken pictures and provided a how to for you guys!

How fking old was this car that it could be hotwired just touching wires together in the ignition barrel?

Any remotely modern car would have an immobiliser that would stop the car cranking at all unless the transponder in the key is near the barrel.

You sure you didn't fall asleep during an episode of The Sweeney and wake up thinking you were in it?

You're making an assumption that Dorris used a parking bay. Chances are she "popped into the shop.. i'll only be a minute, no need to actually park properly" and then the OP's masterclass in how to break into a stbox began.

Cool story Bro.

Had you been less inept you wouldnt have had to cut any wires.
