Hi All

I'm new to the site and wondered if anyone could help me. I have just bought a Car which is logged as 'Cat C Extensive Damage' and I'm worried about the insurance. Do I need to declare this when I take out the insurance or will they know from the shared computer systems? And if so, can anyone recommend an insurance company that will cover me without hiking up the prices?

Thanks

Lou x

Cat c shouldn't effect your insurance premiums.

Do I need to declare it though? I've got to drive it 100 miles back when I pick it up on Sunday so need to get the insurance sorted before I go!

No they won't ask if the cars had any accidents just if you have. Some 1 might disagree with me but I've never been asked.

The only one I've noticed so far is the best quote I've had and it asked me to agree to their disclaimer which stated that the car was not a write off?! Not entirely sure that it would be classed as that now as it has been repaired and has passed MOT etc!! Its driving me mad now!!!

I almost took out a policy with swift cover, but read this on their site:
... said:
We do not cover vehicles under the following circumstances:
It has been previously written-off or scrapped (including where the vehicle log book identifies that the car has been previously damaged or repaired or an HPI database check identifies the vehicle as Category A, B, C or D write off).
Same problem you seem to have just come across!

I ended up going with Aviva, who seemed happy to provide cover and gave a good quote.

Will try them now, thanks smile

Did you have to declare it to them or just carry on as normal?

Ended up staying with Flux, what a nightmare it was with other insurances!!

Kwik Fit don't mention it on their website but when I called them to check she said they needed to speak to their underwriters on Monday - I told her the site is misleading but doubt that'll change!!

Apparently you do have to declare it, most (including Flux) only request a copy of the current MOT and it shouldn't be a problem but almost all of the companies I contacted needed to speak to their underwriters (which cannot be done on a weekend it seems!) before they could cover it, whereas Flux did it there and then!

Unfortunately it doesnt state this on the insurance websites so be careful if you are in the same boat as I was!!

On a brighter note, new car is amazing, wouldn't think it had been a Cat C!! smile
