Hello all.

Right i have a Toyota corolla t sport. Rarely gets used. IIRC last time it was used was at least 4 weeks ago. Battery is dead as a doornail. This has happened once before a long time back.

If i jump it then will it keep its charge or is there a possibility there is something other than simple lack of use drainage wrong it?

If you have a ampmeter measure the drain to be sure before you go out buying a new battery, should not be drawing any more than 0.05amps.

Now why would i do that. It is great fun when being thrashed. Its a pain the rest of the time. I will sell it at some point. Hopefully next month as it is pissing me off just sitting there.

Four weeks is probably long enough for the alarm to drain the battery, to be honest. If you get to the point where you can't start the car after less than a week, then you have cause for concern, but..

Charge your battery, get it to your local Halfords and ask them to test it, they do it for free. It will almost certainly say "battery unserviceable", I wouldn't worry about that, and the voltage should be fine (12.2-12.8V, if not, need a new one) - but you're interested in the percentage charge it gives you - any less than 60% after you've just charged it, you could do with a new one.

Batteries only really last 5 years or so... So it may well be on its way out.

IIRC the Corolla T-sport was used as their hybrid develpment vehicle before more widely publicised release of the Prius. Check the owners manual and you'll see the battery pack is due for replacement anytime after 8 years. Replacement cost is just £3,000 at your local dealer or there are some available from breakers at about one third of that price. Happy hunting!

Does it have an alarm? If you're not using it much and it's parked in a safe place, lock it without activating the alarm. Depends on the system as to how you do this.

That age battery is probably well past its best so a replacement is in order.

Also leaving the battery connected but flat will also cause harm to the cells in
the battery so if it wasn't buggered before it probably is now.

4 weeks to flatten it is most likely a combination of the alarm and the memory
backup in the radio. a fault would flatten it much sooner.
