Did my battery just die?

[R1 Indy]

I needed to move the 7 out of the garage to access the loft.

Started it up fine, battery was showing around 14V, gave it a quick blip of throttle and there was a small pop and engine died.

Now the battery is only showing 0.8V.

I know its cold but that shouldn't kill the battery should it?

I assume it will be beyond just giving a nice long charge?

Was there a smell as well? Sounds like you might have short circuited it. Check fuses and that the lead to the starter hasn't frayed. I would also check the output of the alternator when it is back working incase the voltage regulator has been damaged.
