Slightly worried about my Mini. I love to go out on country lane hoons and obviously don't drive like an old man when round those parts.
How hard can you drive cars before they set on fire and you die?
I'm getting a straight cut box, lighter fly wheel, stronger clutch which means everything will be a bit better.

I've also upgraded my subframe mounts to solid race ones which help...

You'll probably find your skill runs out before the car catches fire. The effect will be the same though.

Drive as hard as you like, depends how big your wallet it when things go bang.

My 998cc gets some abuse, everyday, rain or shine and it hasnt gone wrong in two years.

Just change the oil lots smile aaaand erm, be careful smile

Straight cuts would drive me mad, so loud, fair play.

Oo I love the sound of a straight cut box!
I've heard loads of people say the a series is a tough engine, just kind of needed a bit of back up.

The straight cut gears will drive you mad after a while.

I also love the sound but I couldn't live with it on a daily basis (I'm assuming this is your only car?).

Maintenance and mechanical sympathy will go a long way.

Don't mean to sound like a boring tt, but surely country lanes aren't the best place to be driving a car to the point of destruction? You'd have to be really going some to be worried about components failing?

Or are Minis really that fragile!hehe

Can you clarify how many uncrashed yet burnt-out cars you typically see when out and about? Or perhaps describe the turn of events that you think causes a vehicle to burst into flames for seemingly no reason?

Important thing with a straight cut box is to use the correct anechoic gear oil. Sound reflection in the box can cause stress cracking of the teeth which isn't going to end well. Additives can do the job. Some people find products like astro glide can reduce the sound pressure levels to acceptable levels.

Just to clarify I'm not asking if my car will set on fire. Was just exaggerating on general engine failure!

Which by the way you can get with an underseat mount like that extinguisher which looks fking cool in a mini.
