Which brand/model of winter tyres for A4 B8 FWD?

Guys,

I have three choices for winter tyres for my A4 B8 2.0T (FWD):

1) Continental WinterContact TS 830 P (£820) - new
2) Goodyear Ultra Grip Performance 2 (£700) - new
3) Pirelli Sottozero - (£400-500) - second hand with 8mm tread

They will be 245/40/R18's.

Which one do you think I should go for? At the moment I'm more inclined towards the Goodyear's.......

Likewise, if anyone's thinking of selling their winter tyres of the same size, will be happy to hear offers.

Drop to a 17" and get a set of cheap eBay alloys with 225/50/17 tyres instead?

That way you're covered for next year as well, if you intend to keep the car, plus there's a little more sidewall and a slightly narrower tyre.

Goodyears at £650 seem like a very good price for the 18s though.

I've already ruled out the 17" option. I looked into 'cheap alloys' on Ebay, but none are that appealing or cheap enough.... Besides, I would't want a non-Audi alloy, so would be hard to find one for cheap
