Big comfy reliable V6 cruiser for a grand? (And a plan)
Discussion
Ok, so I've got a plan.
I bought an SLK earlier this year and I love it. But it's a 2005, 46K miles, and whilst there's nothing wrong with it at all, I have a hankering for a newer one. Now when I bought mine, a 2008 onward (which is the facelift model) was £20K all day long and I just didn't want to put that much into a car. With the new model out this summer, the now "old shape" 2008 cars are nearer £15K and dropping.
So ok, mine's dropped too, but lower starting point so not as much.
So here's the cunning plan.
Sell mine early 2012 (if I p/x it I'm going to get kicked in the proverbials, plus it wipes out private sales and I quite like buying privately and meeting the previous owner, it's how I bought my current one).
Buy a cheap reliable comfortable safe shed. Smoke around in that for the summer whilst watching out for the perfect SLK (I'm quite particular about spec, took me three months to find the car that I have. Mainly because I want manual which wipes out 90% of what's on the market).
So, if I buy a shed, it has to be reliable, otherwise I'm just going to bleed money rather than save it. So I'm thinking Japanese, and something a bit obscure for "maximum bang for buck".
But I want something safe, comfortable, and I fancy a big engined wafter because I don't do much mileage, and when I do it's usually company mileage so I get mileage allowance. And then it's long runs, hence has to be comfortable. Also really fancy trying an auto for six months, just to see if it converts me.
I'm thinking about a budget of a grand, so I can shift it easily once new car arrives (ie, if I sell it for 25% under what it's worth to bang it out quick, it's only £250 less).
The Honda Legend of recent shed thread got me thinking about one of those, and subsequently I've always had a soft spot for the old Accord Coupe. Big, comfy, lots of toys, and a nice lazy 3.0 auto. Something like this:

So, top priorities are reliable and safe, secondary are big and comfy with a few (working!) toys and air con.
Is it a mad plan? And what other cars should I be considering?

Hadn't thought of one of those. Not a bad idea at all.
Guessing at that age potentially not as reliable as a JAp car, but maybe cheaper to fix.

Expect that to go way over budgetMy favorite colour, one of the last made only downside will be it'll have grey leather
Omega Elite with a V6 however will probably make far less coin

Four years newer and not that many more miles and a cofin carrying version to boot

what about an MG ZT, or rover 75?
They're silly cheap these days, (especially the rather unattractive rover) usually have far less miles than other cars of the same price.
Smooth V6, usually quite a few toys, lots of comfy barge-tastic wafting, for shed monies.
Im not a fan of the 75 to look at, but they're lovely places to be inside, and a real 'magic carpet ride'. My old mans had his for years. Lovely to drive, a real effortless cruiser. He was shocked recently when he found out how little it's worth now, and theres barely any miles on his

If you want, in the new year (although I'll sell it before if someone offers the right money!) I'm selling my facelift my2000 Omega 2.5v6 elite saloon, currently with 72k on the clock and loads of stuff done to it over the last 2 years (not much else to go wrong!). All suspension all round done too.
Want a little more than £1k but not that much more.
