I don't believe so - if however you buy say a new car and the garage buys the tax disc then VAT gets added on top (as it is then a service).

I don't think so. Looking at a new car sales I have in front of me, all be from a few years ago, this is not the case, 1st Reg Fee and VED are zero rated. So unless things have changed and I missed it, this is not the case regardless of who buys it.

Seems fair enough to me. Someone has to pay a fortune so I can tax my eco box for free. biggrin

I'm happy to subsidise people driving soul-destroying cars if they like to punish themselves that much to save a few quid wink

Honestly though, it was £240 last year, and £220 the year before, just seems a fairly steep curve considering HMRC are probably raking in billions extra due to VAT on fuel going up, and fuel also going up...

Tight buggers.

I must admit, and I'm probably going against the grain a little here, but I consider VED to be one of the more reasonably priced taxes (sorry, duties) we have to pay. Ok, it's not peanuts as a sum of money, but I think to be able to drive an unlimited number of miles on our roads, it is pretty reasonable.

Just my 2 pence!

Would be if they used even a 1/4 of the tax collected to go back into our UK roads.......

My view is that it's not totally relevant where it ends up - that is the tax/duty that needs to be paid to do the driving bit and I still think it's not bad!
