Why do people do this? (And there's a few of these type of things dotted about).

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...

If I was looking at cars for a few hundred quid I wouldn't be interested in this at £6,399.

If I were interested in cars at around £6,500, I'm not going to be searching cars at £100 so I'm going to miss it.

I really don't get the logic. confused

1. I think the advert price for car less than £1000 is much cheaper than normal. So they have comitted some level of fraud here.
2. Their car appears first in the list as it usually defaults to diaplying results Low > High

Thats the only reasons to do it I think..... not sure how effective it is because I would never contact advertising a car like that.

'only serious buyers' ....hmm, would help if they were a serious seller.

As has been said it's cheaper to advertise a car for under a grand. I think it's £9.99... for more than that it's £25 or something. Can't blame people as it is a rip off (when compared to Pistonheads smile) but yes, it is extrememly annoying! Autotrader need to do something about this, it's in their interests to make more money anyway.

I dont even entertain people like this, even if I like the car. If they were genuine, they would advertise the car at market value.

£42 to advertise on autotrader now I think, but much cheaper for under £1000. Really annoys me

I noticed this a lot when looking for my winter barge, i never even bothered calling the ones who advertised a 3k car for 300, then in the description say something like, real price is 3000.
My thoughts are if they wont pay full price for an advert then its likely they have been scrimping on servicing costs etc too

Equally as annoying is when they bypass the mileage filter by putting '147', instead of 147000!!!

Really grips my st that one.

These mileage and price mess ups are one of the main reasons I don't bother with Autotrader anymore. Wading through all the rubbish adverts to find what you want is a real PITA.

AT should really clamp down on these idiots.

Oh yes that one too, fking nobs the lot of them cocking up my search results when I am looking for cars I cannot afford anyway! Why would I want to fantasise about owning a car with a billion miles on the clock, ITS NOT WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!!!!!

Especially considering the price difference between a cheapo AT ad an a proper one is - at a guess - half a tank of fuel FFS.

Whilst I agree with the mileage / price annoyances in practical terms AT is leagues ahead of where it was 5 years ago. The ability to search using numerous filters and then sort by range is very useful, especially when compared with the paper version.

This!

When I come to power people that do this will be summarily stripped of any means to access the internet or drive a car. s!

Find one of the culprits and, with a different voice each time, call them and ask about the car and that for £300 you'll buy it.

They'll say, sorry, it's £3k (or whatever).

You then say "why not advertise it at £3k then" and hang up.

Repeat until they get sick of it. biggrin Maybe put it on FB or wherever and ask all your mates to call the dealer. He gets swamped with calls for that £300 motor that he has to decline. biggrin

Which is probably about half a tank more than any car thus advertised has seen in years...hehe
