Test drove a CSL today. It wasn't very good. Choppy ride, poor body control, engine noise that was a bit synthetic and bugger all steering feel. I'd take a 96 GT3 over one any day of the week. An evora for that matter as well and all manner of V8 Ferrari.

E30 M3 aside (which I really rather like), are there an other BMWs I should try to instill any belief in the marque ?

I think if you've tried the M3 CSL and didn't like it, you might as well give up and look elsewhere!

No sorry all BMW's are incredibly slow, lack steering feel, have a hard choppy ride and a synthetic engine noise, oh apart from a 318D.

the csl you tried today was broken!

It's an incredible machine, I tried one a few yrs back and the steering, power delivery, noise were all the best bits of the csl. Maybe try a different one in dry conditions, I have never driven a 996 GT3 so don't know how they would compare, the 996tt is a hoot though
