Following on from the Audi TT thread where the OP was asking about image... What image do certain cars portray to you?

When I had a BMW 7 series, people at work referred to it as the Pimp-mobile as they said it was a car used by Pimps. When I drove the Audi TT they said it was a hair dressers car. I had an Accord for a while and they referred to it as the "old mans" car.

So when you see a certain car, what image does it portray to you?

Nope, I'd go with the first one.

I'm not sure if there are any stereotypes associated with my car.

S2000 - Hairdresser wink

When I see an old XJ I immediately think of and older man smoking and drinking whiskey and watching darts / snooker.

My uncle had one when he was alive and that basically decribes him.

I think it changes over the life of a car. When I first bought my old e46 M3 I felt like it was something a bit special, I rarely saw others and it looked fresh and contemporary. However, 3 years later, the e90 had come out, the e46 was looking dated and I'd noticed them popping up outside the houses of the nylon-trousered brigade. The fact that I kept seeing them with an assortment of bad modifications was enough to persuade me to sell up. In retrospect, I miss the M3, but I'm glad to be out of it. But I'd have another now, even despite the image.

You really do appear to be confused about your feelings for the M3. I'm still not sure whether you are happy or sad to have got rid of it. hehe

I don’t really have an opinion on this - I see such a range of different people driving different cars I can’t make an opinion.

Most people see the likes of saxo's or 106's driven by chavs but there are a few VTS's around my way driven by middle aged women who have probably never taken the car over 3k RPM.

Then you get the m3's driven by anybody from 19 - 59

I don’t look at the car and make an opinion - my opinion is derived from the way the car is driven regardless of the manufacturer/type.
