Heard some bloke wittering away on radio 4 that due to more and more drive offs from petrol stations that the industry will be moving over to pre-paid fuel

Which means that the industry will move over to pay at the pump

I can't wait for the death of the horrible shop waiting behind some half brain buying a loaf of bread

Same here, I hate having to use the shop now. I nearly always use the pay at pump at the local Tesco. It's faster, and your credit card details don't get scammed. And you don't get the hard sell on half price lucozade. Or have to interact with people.

Handy for screenwash though.

The obvious answer is go into the shop first to pay for the fuel, then the attendant can switch the pump on, which stops when the limit has been reached......hardly rocket science.

Then the service station can keep the shop too, which helps to keep the business viable, as profits on petrol are peanuts for a smaller station.

bit like the US then. Surprised it hasn't happened sooner in the UK, especially in certain 'high' risk areas.

No the answer is to shoot anyone who goes in to merely buy a loaf of bread

The petrol station I used to run the profit on the fuel didn't even cover the wages.

It was only the sales from the shop that kept the place open.

Never a bad thing! I am a bit of an inpatient person at petrol stations and can't stand waiting for some halfwit to go and buy their weeks shopping from the shop. It's not like we have a shortage off licenses to accomodate them. Petrol stations are for petrol, air and the jetwash. Get rid of everything else and the world will be a better place biggrin

+1000000!!!

I always pay at pump where possible. Only using the shop if I need something from there or if I only have cash.

My local Tesco pay at pump only authorises up to £60 of fuel on one go. Disco 3 takes £130 to the brim so you need to make 3 transactions to fill the tank. PITA.

All you do is approve a certain value, say £99, you don't actually charge it until filling is completed. Same way as pay at pump works....

I often notice that the obese never come back from paying for petrol without food, often even cramming it down their Henry VIII sized necks as they walk back to the car.

I wouldn't worry about the spelling police if I were you.

Most of them are spraying the walls after multiple blood vessel ruptures and have gone for a lie down.

I don't see people's gripes with people using the shops whilst getting petrol. I rarely do myself but it's handy to pick up a drink, cigs or a bite to eat when you do need it. If someone gets so wound up about being held up a couple of minutes by someone paying for goods at a petrol station then they really need to sort their lives out.
