I need some help working out what is best for my needs...
Discussion
I posted earlier regarding buying a skoda octavia as my needs have changed slightly. Currently got a volvo t5 which is now sold, was drinking way way too much petrol.
Anyway, I currently do 60-80 miles per week, mainly in traffic to and from the train station. Potentially I may have a new job on the horizon meaning my milage could go up to 300 miles per week.
I cant decide which is going to be better for me financially. I have these 2 cars in mind;

Im not trying to start the classic general gassing petrol vs diesel argument, I would just like to know what the wise of GG would choose and why.
Over to you and thanks in advance!
ETA: Just ran some insurance quotes, the skoda os £154 more a year to insure than the golf!

Bump for the day shift!
Also, there seems to be more Passats for sale than anything else, are they as good as the Skoda?

Golf or Skoda? I can see why you're having issues deciding. It would be like choosing either suicidal depression or a coma.
If I had £3,000 and had to do silly miles a week I'd get something I'd enjoy driving so no matter how rubbish the job was I'd have the drive home to look forward to every day.
Reliable, economical, fun and under three grand? MX5, BMW Mini, warm hatch or a Rover 213S and £2,500 change?

You're talking to a man who drove an Audi A4 TDI for 3 years, so I'm well used to being depressed!
