I’m looking for another toy, and was originally thinking of a Hotter Hatch than the current toy (205gti), but as it’s a 3rd car I can’t use any No Claims Bonus.

As the 205 is on a Classic Policy it’s only £150 to insure, but a 172 would cost a frankly staggering £600 odd. Which seems a lot when I’ll only do a few thousand in it, and I’m pushing 40.

Other stuff ruled out – S2000 / Z4 3.0, as there all £600 plus.

Best option so far is a Lancia Delta Integrale £250 to insure.

It may sound like I’m being tight (and I probably am) but I’d rather spend the money on trackdays / petrol / tyres than hand it over to the Insurance industry.

So the exam question, what other options are out there? As it’s a toy, there’s no real restrictions regarding practicality. Budget around £6k.

Cheers chaps.

Most stuff can be insured on a classic policy so long as its a second car, limited mileage, and often garaged.

Case in point colleague at work was looking at getting a 997 as a second car, classic insurance companies were happy to quote on it so long as the three criteria above were applied.

You're able to buy a Lancia Delta Integrale and you have to think about it? What's wrong with you sir?

VW Corrado? TVR?

I've had both on classic cover.

My cerbera is laughably cheap for insurance

i've owned a 2000 Lotus Elise Sport 160, a 1996 TVR Chim 4.0 and a 2000 Boxster 3.2S, all on a classic policies and never costing any more than about £250 (for 4-5k mileage)

[hijack] Can you tell me more ref Corrado on classic policy? Mine isn't much to insure on a standard policy but I meet the three criteria mentioned above and I'd be happy paying even less. Who did you use please?

E30 325i Sport?

Unlikely you'd be able to pick up an E30 M3 for 6k nowadays.

There's no shortage of options, I like GT's so would be tempted by a decent example of perhaps the XJR-S or 928.

Would get a pretty good Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 with manual box. My 2.3-16 was just over £100/pa on a classic policy.
