As per title.
Needs enough space for prams and travel systems plus shopping and luggage. Also needs to be very fast and needs to be a viable car tp do 30-35k miles a year.

Thoughts??

Ermm - capable of doing 30-35k a year? Rather an odd criteria!

You mean the 3 series touring 330d?
Is that really big enough for prams travel system luggage or shopping??

depends on budget I suppose

a supercharged RR would do if money only appeared near the bottom of the list of considerations.

What are "travel systems"?

I did 40,000 in 2 years in a Skoda Favorit, so you need something about 50% better than one of those.

Still not clear - surely any car, with a bit of tlc, will do 30-35k a year?!

The usual suspects for large, fast family estates spring to mind:

E55 AMG, E63 AMG, M5 Touring, RS6 Avant, etc, etc.

The difference between a 20mpg car and a 40mpg car with £1.329 v £1.38 fuel prices mean that on a week by week basis the 20mpg would be £80+ per week more

F10 535d Touring? Pretty good but it sounds like the steering is a bit cr4p.

Jogger strollers.
Ie a a pushchair a big fancy pushchair not a small one for the beach - if you know what I mean.
They are not the smallest of things and add in shopping

I realise that but as with everything it's going to be a compromise
Those mentioned would fit the very fast however fuel cost would be very high and given my car is filled up at least once a week these would be two to three times a week every week. That's not a great use of time.

Would the S4 avant 3.2 turbo be a sensible option strong performance and combined in the low 30's mpg. Sure not RS4 quick but a compromise.

That'll work if you like spending a grand a month on petrol. Nice one.

That's 24k a year of pre-tax earning on fuel alone by the way.

The answer by the way is a 530d or the merc equivalent - surely.

Yes, but there's a difference between doing 30k as year in a Punto vs. doing it in a 5 series.

And depending on how much money one has, that could either be prohibitive to getting the RR, or it doesn't even register.

Have seen a few A6 3.0 TDI Avants in the parents' parking bays. That or the 530d/535d touring are probably on the list of things to look at I suppose

Cayenne diesel

Best real world car on sale today. Does everything. And better than any 5 series BMW on pretty much any criteria you care to mention.
